The dishwasher ... his food bowls sit in front of the washer and my normal chow hound will avoid eating a meal if the dishwasher is running. I've taken to running it when I head to bed at night to keep from having an issue. If anything, it's nice to wake up, unload it and have it ready to fill first thing in the morning.

Barking dogs ... He really dislikes when the neighborhood dogs bark at night. If we're out for a walk or a potty break, he'll be first in line to head home - whatever they have to say, it must be mean!

He's been to Mardi Gras and did fantastically there with the people he met, and survived a very long car ride in his crate without a worry. Mostly he's smart and unafraid, using caution when needed, but woe to the dishwasher and the those big ol' labs down the street!

Blue is afraid of white trucks, especially buses (she did get out one evening and came back with some cuts on her legs, but no broken bones, i'm thinking maybe she narrowly escaped being hit by a bus). She doesnt' like cars driving too fast period. She doesn't like walking the opposite way of traffic at night on a busy street....somehting about the lights bother her. She also runs and turns around really quick if anything is making noise behind her.

I forgot a few more.... aside from the evil vacuum and the freaky baby gates....
Louie HATES sunglasses, hats, beanies, and loud clothing.
One time we were camping, and a man wearing a hat, and some sunglasses was coming over to pet him... he got right in front of me and growled, and snarled and carried on. Then the guy took off the hat and sunglasses, and he was okay.

Like a few others here CJ used to be afraid of balloons. So much so that he would never go near one and I thought I would be able to use them to keep him out of certain areas of the house. But it turned out that his fear made the balloons something fun to "challenge" and soon I noticed he was playing with the balloon that was supposed to keep him away! Now balloons are his favorite toy! He knows the word and can't wait until it's blown up and within 15 seconds to a few minutes he pops it! He loves to nudge and chase them and barke at them before he "kills" them! I used to blow up a bunch for him to play with until I realized that he actually ATE some of the ones he popped! So now he only gets one at a time and only when he is "supervised"!

Sirus is affraid of the Vacuum...he hides under the coffee table and waits until it gets close and charges after it and bites it...

He's also affraid of the blow dryer...I actually think he HATES it more than he's affraid of it...

And the newest one...I just saw last night...is the microwave...but only while it's popping popcorn! That totally freaked him out...
He would not go into the kitchen!!! It was hilarious!!!

Whatta freak!!! foolicon

Minnie's afraid of big trucks. Whenever we take her on walks and she sees a big truck, she hides behind our legs until the truck is gone. We don't know if she's afraid of the size or the noise or both.

The shelter people said she was a stray in DC so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Maybe the poor girl had to dodge one or two in her young life! :(

Orion is scared to death of the vacuum. If he sees me bring it in the living room, he runs to the kitchen. I was vacuuming one evening ( I usually do it during the day while my husband's at work) and after Orion had ran into the kitchen, he peeped back around the bar at Matt (hubby), nodded his head and whimpered. As I was undoing the cord and plugging it up, he ran back in, at top speed mind you, nudged Matt's leg, looked up at him and ran full tilt back in the kitchen. I was as if he was saying "Man come on!! Are you crazy?? That thing'll get you!!" Well, Matt went in the kitchen with him, just to see what he would do, and Orion hid behind his legs the whole time.

I just love his little antics. :p

Jackson'sgrl

Boxer Buddy
I've remembered one fear that he overcame.

We got Jackson when he was 8 pounds, just a tiny little thing and got the recommended wee rawhide things for him to gnaw on in the hopes of saving the couch. When he'd grown a bit, I got him a bigger rawhide bone, the type with the knotted ends that they love to chew off...

I offered it to him, like I have with all of his toys, telling him it was a new treat. He sniffed, interested, cocked his head to the side and snorted. Then he growled (which was comical since he never had) and started to bark at the thing. I said 'What? It's yummy...I think.' More barking and hair raised hackles.

I didn't push it, just set it with his other toys in his toybox. Boy was that a mistake! The toybox was apparently now the scene of warfare. He'd make mad dashes to get something, knocking everything in a different direction to avoid what was surely an infected and quite possibly possessed bit of rawhide.

It became a game. We'd all be sitting around, casual, watching tv and one of us would toss the evil rawhide into the midst of the group. He'd attack it with a vengeance, barking and growling at it. Until the day he actually touched it. He got in a lick and it was like the heavens were revealed. He actually looked at me - rather stunned - then lunged for the rawhide and started at it, gnawing.

I'm glad he has the chewtoy to keep his teeth active, but I rather miss that it's not straight from the devil and a toy worthy of banishment... Either way, always making me laugh!

A friend came over on crutches - poor Charlie. She hid around the corner and was shaking so badly that I was sure she was going to pee herself.

this is a cute thread!

lets see..

Justice....not afraid of anything!!

Kelseigh..hates shadows on the ceiling, the laundry basket if you set it down near her she will run....somethings you could say she hates but not a fear thing more of a protective thing. if a big truck (fed ex, ups, garbage truck, dump truck etc) drives down the street she runs to the window and the hair on her back stands staight up and she growls and barks. once a person rode down the street on a horse and boy she wasnt hapy about that either..hair up and barking

benny the beagle...the monster..aka the vacuum cleaner!!!! scared to death  smashicon
