Layla's Mom

Super Boxer
Layla is my first dog that I have had as an adult. After being married for 8 years with no kids, hubby and I were both pretty set in our ways and lifestyle--He travels for a living, I work full time and I have always had jitters about starting a family-whether it be skin or fur kind.

Layla has changed all that--for the better! After much soul searching I have realized that she has taught me that I could be less selfish and much more patient. I would gladly sacrafice so much for her-whether it be time, money, sleep(LOL)!!

While we all spend a lot of our time teaching our boxers things, I was just wondering what your boxer has taught you???

In the two months that we have had Joe, he has taught me the following:

- I will get up very early to let him potty, eat and play!

- I spoil him just as much as my skin kids!

- How to be a kid again when I run all over the yard with him and actually jump on the trampoline with him. ( his favorite)

- Just how much I love him!!!

Mason was my first dog also - and came into my life at 8 weeks. He's now almost a year and a half and in that time has taught me:

- I don't need as much sleep as I thought I did.
- I can get up at 6am every morning
- I can live in a messy home!
- I can go out in my PJ's in the middle of the night on one of the busiest streets in San Francisco so my puppy can go pee!
- I don't need savings!
- I'm not ready for skin kids!
- I can house train a puppy!

and more importantly

- Life is to be sniffed and enjoyed in the moment!
- There are far more important things in life than work!
- I always have time to stop and play ball!
- I can love more than I ever thought possible!

Thank you Mason for all you have taught me!!

Another great thread! We've had some fun ones today. Honestly, Jake has just taught me how to love a pet. Before we adopted him, my husband and I just couldn't understand how anyone could connect with an animal. We would make fun of our friends for giving them a cajillion christmas presents, etc. Of course, now we're guiltier than anyone! I just never knew how much love a pet could bring into my life. :) Aawww...

This may sound stupid, but after losing my dog I had growing up I sword I'd never have another. Then Austin came into my life and I learned it was ok to love another. And boy do I love him.

When I was researching the type of dog that i wanted for our family, it always stood out to me that people who had boxers in their lives (especially people who grew up with them) always spoke of them in a different manner than people who grew up with other breeds. It was like that boxer they once had touched their life in such a special way that they had carried it with them forever.
Well, my Dolly and Demas, in the short time I have had them have taught me exactly what these people were feeling. I, also, was one who didn't grow up with a dog and didn't quite understand some peoples "obsession" with their dogs. It is quite clear now. It is clear that they are a part of our family. It is clear that my daughter will have an unconditional love from them as she grows and learns about the world we live in. She will always have a warm boxer hug when she needs it and a friend who will always listen.

What has your boxer taught you about

Great thread! Coleman has taught me to not take life so seriously..how can you with a silly boxer? Coleman has taught me to laugh, sing silly songs to him, be kind to all creatures, and to slow down and see things from his perspective...watching birds fly, chasing butterflies, smelling flowers, and lying in the grass and taking the world in. What wonderful things a boxer can bring to our lives. We are lucky to have them.

The true meaning of unconditional love and that I could handle motherhood if ever blessed with a "skinbaby."

To react calmly when he is bad (not very often). He is much more sensitive than any dog I've ever had. I don't need to raise my voice to get my point across.

We got our first boxer when I was just finishing up my last semester at college...i learned very quickly that i can run on 4-5 hours of sleep, not go out as often because I think he would be mad at me when I would return home
