What do you feed your boxer?

Dog nutrition is obviously important to most people here (3 forums JUST for feeding!). I think it would be interesting to see at a glance what are the numbers of people feeding what. (And thanks to our clever Olly, we can now do that with a POLL!)

I free feed kibble during the day and give them home cooking at night. (sometimes we have pizza, and hubby says, "I'll have what the dogs are having!") Jasper seems to be in marvelous condition. Piper we have only had a couple of weeks, so we'll have to see how she goes. Both seem happy with their diet.

I've been feeding BARF for about 4 months now and couldn't imagine ever buying another bag of dog food again. The difference BARF has made in my dogs health in such a short time is unbelievable. Waste turns to dust in a day so cleaning the yard is a breeze...I don't.

I am also feeding BARF, but have only been doing it for a short while. I started out with a prepared BARF and I am now making it myself. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but we have settled into it nicely. Joe loves his food and I am in high hopes of improving his health. We have a lot of skin and allergy issues!

Bismarck mainly eats home cooked food. It usually consists in pieces of chicken/turkey mixed with rice and boiled carrots. He sometimes gets beef (raw or cooked). He is 12 years old and his coat still looks great. He has some grey only on his muzzle and on the top of his head.

Baxter gets one canned meal, sometimes mixed with a little bit of kibble, and one home cooked meal consisting of chicken or turkey with rice/pasta and some fresh veggies. Two or three times a week he gets a steak or hamburger meat. He also gets goats milk and 4 tablespoons of fat free plain yogurt to help with gas, and when he's crated he gets a Kong with Peanut Butter and a Bil-Jac liver treat to keep him occupied.

We feed Nutro chicken and rice. Ours get yogurt, green beans and an assortment of other fruits and veggies as treats. They seem to do well. We always had our kids into the vet it seems but since we have moved they have been healthiest they have ever been. I think it is the good country air and all the exercise they get

I have always fed Pedigree kibble, Pedigree wet and home cooked food. Favorites are chicken, beef, hard boiled eggs, mixed veggies, beef kidney and liver. Yummmmmm!

Ours were on Best In Show for a while but becase of the cost of shipping from Florida I switched to Innova, Now at the advice of my Vet I`ve switched to California Natural reduced calorie, because Caesar has be having problems with his pancreas and weight. I mix it with green beans carrots and canned low fat senior Innova, as Cal- Nat doen`t make a reduced calorie canned food. Sometimes I give cooked white meat chicken instead of the canned food. I will keep them on this until Caesar looses a few pounds. I am curently waiting for the results of his thyroid tests to see if that`s the problem.

After switching to a holistic food from Iams, I only wish I could do BARF. The change in their coats and poops from the kibble switch alone was amazing. With our busy, dog-centric lifestyles, BARF right now is not an option. I will probably make the change one day because the difference alone from swithing from Iams is amazing. All our friends & family have since made kibble brand changes as well!

There are prepared raw diets you could try if you're really interested in feeding raw. They are a bit (or a lot, depending on the food!) more expensive but do save some time. (Of course, once you get into it feeding raw really doesn't take much time at all - an hour on the weekend gets me one to two weeks' worth of food for 5 dogs.)
