What do you do for a job?

I am just curious, not trying to get too personal or anything, just curious what all of you do for work?

I am a Certified Nursing Assistant/Medication Administration Assistant at a Nursing Home. I have been there for almost 10 years. Not too glamorous, or high paying, but I get by pretty good. I have no desire to become a Nurse, as I have been asked *many* times. I would much rather go into something pharmacy related. Well, if I ever leave where I am at now.

Please don't think I am being nosy, it just helps me get a better picture of all of ya. :D

I work full-time for our local school system as the Clerk of the Board. I enjoy the legal aspects of the position, it is close to home (big plus for the doggies), offers good benefits, and pays reasonably well. I work on-call at a Trauma-ER about 40 minutes away. I have been there 5 years and enjoy it. It is just like TV. I find it very interesting and have learned so much in my time there. It also helped out with all the specialist and vet bills I had with Garrett my sheltie rescue. I pretty much pick my hours so that is a definant plus. This month I only worked one 12 hour shift. I do volunteer work for 2 different animal rescue organizations and that keeps me VERY busy! Great post. It isn't too personal and it puts a twist on things :D

I am a senior at Towson University in Maryland.
My major is Health Care Management/Business Administration.
I graduate in the beginning of June!! Yippee.

I work part-time as an administrative assistant in a law firm. It is actually fun, the two lawyers are big goofs!!

I am a GIS (Geological Information Systems) Technician. I read deeds to property within my county and draw them in a computer program. This is why I am a computer freak!!! I am 24 years old with no college, I did graduate from high school! The job pays GOOD, I have great benefits and I LOVE MY JOB!! Not many people can say that!! Yesterday I got my first raise!!!!

I work for a local hospital in the medical records department. I do transcription of all the different patient reports part of the time and the rest of the time I do ICD-9 and CPT (insurance) coding for the emergency department. Lots of great stories there!

This is an interesting question. All of your jobs sound pretty exciting. I have worked as a paralegal for about 19 years, although I graduated from Ole Miss with an elementary education degree. Unfortuately, I discovered I couldn't support myself and my puppies on a teacher's salary here. I am currently a court administrator with the Attorney General's office - I work solely for our gaming division which deals with the 30 casinos in our state. It's pretty interesting work most of the time.

I work for a major telecommunication company. I've been here almost 5 years. In October I started in the International Alliance Group. It's pretty cool. I deal with the Canadians, hopefully I'll make it up there some day, perferably in the spring or summer

Oh, my! I've had lots of jobs in my time. I was a secretary to a couple of Professors at the University of Toronto in the late 60's. From 1975-1990 I was a nanny and cared for over 60 different children over the 15-year period. After that I was a School Crossing Guard, worked part-time in a PetValu store and then spent a couple of years as a School Counsellor. As of last year I'm officially retired and enjoying every minute of it although I still volunteer at two schools, the library and the local Humane Society. Great question, Andrea, but I sure do feel old with all of you young spring chickens just starting your careers!

Monkey business

I work at a primate research facility, as a project coordinator for infectious studies. I've worked here for over 20 years, and have done it all, from shoveling dirty pea gravel to first aid for animals in the field. Most studies I work with now involve AIDS, but we also study measles, valley fever, etc. (Millions of babies still die from measles in Africa.)
As an animal lover, the work can be hard, but I stay because I know SOMEONE has to do this job, and it might as well be me. I make every effort to reduce the monkeys' discomfort, for instance by talking a researcher into doing two things at once, like taking a blood sample and taking body measurements, instead of scheduling them on two different days. That way the animal is sedated once, not twice. The researchers care too, but because I've been here so long I can often make improvements in their project schedules, which saves distress for the monkeys while the same work gets done. It makes me feel somewhat better. I wish the research didn't need to be done, but until we can successfully wish away AIDS, diabetes, and alzeimers, we really need it.
