Rocks had:

Parvo
Severe pneumonia from untreated KC
Fleas
Roundworms
Tapeworms

These were all in the first month we got him. Actually all in the first day we brought him home. He had a very rough first month and 1/2.

Then we discovered he was allergic to corn and plastic. Finally switching to a raw/holistic life he has had nothing since. Knock on wood :)

BUBBA'S MOM

Boxer Buddy
Bubba is almost 7 (he was a stray)

sick when i found him, kennel cough, deyrdrated, severly underweight, stayed on IVs for 2 weeks
overactive thyroid (control with 2 pills a day)
allergic to something in the air as pup, had bumps all over due to numeours allergies..most he outgrew
symetrical cyst on each front leg-removed-now know symetrical cyst are caused by overactive thryoid, as is symetrical hair loss
stung by hornet. severe reaction, trip to emergency room where we soon discovered he is allergic to STERIODS!
twisted & pulled out dew claw in carpet..got infected, had to have surgery, got well & grew back, just pulled it out again, we don't know how, maybe hiking
memory problems, I tell him everynight I get half the bed, he can't seem to remember, has no clue he is a dog, I tell him some dogs live outside, he can't comprehend!

In 7 years it's really not that much, I keep my vet's home, office & cell number on speed dial...just in case

Sheesh!

Boy, we really are lucky over here!

Marley (6 mos.) had coccidia & roundworms as a puppy and just got over KC.

Kaya is my (10 mo. old) rescue, and ironically, KC is the one and only illness she has had - just got over it.

They don't get vaccinations and they are raw fed...hhhhmmmm, interesting!

Why is that interesting? Scarlet is fed kibble and gets vaccinated and takes heart worms pills and she didnt have any of those things at 6mo/10mos.

I'm lucky too, but my guys are still young

Foster (GSD/Rottie mix - 1.5 yrs): Nothing

Apollo (Boxer - 5 1/2 months): Had heart murmur, coccidia and an undescended testicle when I got him. All three issues have cleared up on their own (except for the coccidia, which we had pills for).

Both were fully vaccinated and both on a raw diet since they came to us (@ 16 and 8 weeks respectively)

Rowdy has been eating dry kibble(he preferred it over canned) since he was 6 weeks old and has never had a noticible ailment. He is 22 months old. He grew up on Ol Roy but has recently switched to Purina One.

In my original post I just listed Mollie's vetinary adventure's, so here are Jed and Hannah's.

Jed - almost 6
Inhalent Allegies...big time!!! Has had numerous amounts of cortisone and creams when he gets too itchy.
Seizure, 12 months ago....rushed him to the vet, hasn't had another one since.
Ripped a few nails off.
Interdigit cyst surgically removed from his from foot.

Hannah - almost 1
Pimple thingy on her little girl bits the week after I got her home, antibiotics cleared it up.
Fat lip, stung by something.

So far...so good really.

Wanda.

Murray's had:

1) an allergic reaction to a shot the vet gave him after he was
bit by a dalmation; and,

2) just this weekend, horrible stomach pain/vomiting from
eating one of his plastic squeaky toys (of which there are no
longer any of these in his toy box).

* Eye Infection (like pink eye - cream cleared it up)
* Benign Tumor on top of head (removed)
* Upset Tummy for 2 straight days (vomiting)
* Pea Size cyst? on side of neck (vet not worried but keeping eye on it-this just showed up within the last 2 weeks)
* We also rushed her to the emergency vet one night at midnight because she was reverse sneezing. I didnt know about reverse sneezing and thought she was choaking. (A very expensive sneeze)

Sure, but look at everything else Scarlet has been through - none of which my dogs have had. I wasn't trying to take the high road, or anything, I was just commenting that I think a raw diet and no or minimal vacs contribute to a healthier dog. That's all. Man, don't get so defensive!

No offence to MarleysMom and Peggy G.... but this is an interesting post that I would like to see continue, please lets not get it closed ( I sense potential off the topic arguments..lol) it's about ailments...not feeding preferences :D
