We have made the very difficult decision to let Roxy go

Roxy is gone. It was very peaceful. We got there and were all out at the car with her and the vet came outside and offered to do it in the car whenever we were ready so we didn't have to move her and make her uncomfortable. Roxy was ready. It was so fast and peaceful but still so incredibly hard. Every step I take I am waiting on her. Who knew going to the bathroom alone would make me feel so alone? Every step we took she was there. Our vet said she knew Roxy was very loved b/c for the past week every place she went someone knew Roxy and would talk to her about Rox. I know everyone thinks their dogs are the best but Roxy was truly the kindest dog I have ever seen. She would let another dog take a treat or toy right from her and she would just trot over and get another one. She loved every person that came into our house (after she took a minute to scare them with her bark). People that were terrified of boxers would be sitting there with Roxy in their laps lol. She was just amazing. It was very lonely last night. Thank you for all your support! I am so thankful for the 4 years we got to spend with her.

image.jpg Run free sweet Roxy you now have no pain and back legs that can run like the wind .. Look down on your folks as they are hurting your loss and give them some joy in the fact that you will be waiting for them ..

Your pain opens a barely healed wound in my heart. I'm crying as I read your post. Four years is just not fair and when it happens fast it is just leaves you beyond empty. We lost our beloved Mick who was same age in a similar way about 7 months ago. It is so hard when you know you are making the right decision for them, but the wrong decision for you. It sounds like Roxy was an angel here on earth and had the best dog life. I hope your good memories will keep Roxy alive in your heart forever. All I know for sure is that I want to go where the dogs are when I die, because I miss my four-legged friends deeply. I am so sorry for your loss. Godspeed dear Roxy

You guys are making me cry. It is such a weird feeling b/c one minute I am happy that Roxy is not suffering anymore and the next minute I am bawling wanting her back and hating myself for letting her go.

Rena, I see you did not wait long to adopt another boxer. How was that for you? I am tormented over this. Before she passed we all said we are NEVER getting another dog and now we are already saying when we get another. The house feels empty and it has only been one day. But I feel guilty about even thinking about it. My co-workers say we have a lot of love to give so we should share that love but I don't know if I am ready to open my heart up again yet.

I am so sorry. I know how difficult that decision was. She is no longer suffering. But remember she will always be in your heart. We always say never get another. But it is too quiet without a boxer. Time will tell, it is different for everyone. We waited 3 months after our Ginger passed. My hubby would have waited longer, but I wasn't having it. When Lily came into our lives it was the best thing, she helped with the grieving. Hugs to you~~~

Nicole - I had a Roxy - I lost her at 13.5 years. I planned for her passing by adopting Mick. He was such an amazing gift and really helped me deal with the loss of Roxy. Mick had a heart problem and we always thought we would lose him quickly (probably while running around), but it didn't happen like that. He starting having strange symptoms and we knew something was wrong - our vet was chasing after multiple things but we weren't getting anywhere (over the course of a few weeks). He got worse very fast and we had to make the impossible decision to let him go. I was miserable, my husband was miserable - we couldn't stand to be in the house. It was too quiet, too empty. We don't have children, our dogs have always been our kids and we have taken care of them like kids. They are with us, with my Mom or at doggie daycare - they are spoiled and rarely left alone. I cried non-stop for 3 days, then I decide this is not getting me anywhere. So I contacted a few breeders and then started searching boxer rescues across the US. My husband would have waited, he knew we would have another dog, but thought it was way too soon. I was on a mission -- selfishly I had a hole in my heart to fill and I honestly thought it might take a month or more to work my way through the rescue process, especially since I was looking outside our local region. The stars aligned and I found "Maxx", now Cooper. He was the first one that really caught my eye and I completed an application. I completed several other applications, but the rescue that had Maxx contacted me back within an hour, we shared e-mails, then talked. Long-story short it only took a few days for the adoption to go through and we made a 12-hour round trip to pick up Cooper. For us - it was meant to be....Cooper slept with us from the first night and has fit into our life perfectly. There is a thread under "General Rescue Forum - Meet Cooper" that has a bit more. Cooper is not Mick and Mick was not Roxy - but I love what is unique about each of them and cherish the memories and pictures I have. I really don't work without a dog around, so this was the right decision for me (and my husband now admits for him too). But this is a very personal decision - you will know when the time is right for YOU. Again - I am so very sorry. I know how much it hurts.

Thank you for sharing that Rena. When our shitzhu died we only waited a few weeks and found Roxy and dh was very against it..until 1 hour after we got home and Roxy was curled up on his chest sound asleep! It was love from then on and Roxy was a perfect fit for our family. So now we are empty and have to figure out what to do. :(
