From a law enforcement agent.

Well first of all, It was a barbadoe lamb (kinda looks like a goat), they are tan and black. The Deputy told me it was goats, but he pointed at a lamb! haha. And we live in the middle of sheep and goat country.

As far as shooting in the leg. The agency I work for now, Homeland Defense, formerly Department of Justice, trains us to shoot center mass of your target and shoot until the threat stops. Sorry to say this, but I am a firearms instructor for the US govt. and I agree with this. Although we do not shoot to kill, we do shoot until the threat stops. I can cite examples, but that would be a different forum. I kind of want to tell the Sheriff's deputy that she is alive just for the principle of it. I might, but first I'll take her to another ranch in another county where she'll thousands of acres to run! Maybe. Well I'm leaving to San
Antonio to find another boxer for the kids. Rescue has none, maybe a mutt at the Humane Society. Be back Sunday night.

If you are faced with a life threatening situation you pull your gun to kill <-- I'm sorry...this was not what I should have said. Shooting center mass until the threat stops is much more tactful and truthful. My apologies, I was a bit worked up.

I just wanted to back up the law enforcement personnel - the shoot to center of mass is the most realistic goal. In REALITY. It is truly difficult it is to hit an arm or leg (when I say truly, I mean VERY VERY VERY OUTRAGEOUSLY DIFFICULT). This isnt Law& Order. Having trained with guns I can also testify - markmanship is extremely skillful, and it is not easy to even strike a target you aim for, let alone a moving one.

That said -- I am utterly SHOCKED by this story. It turns my stomache that a man in power would do this to an animal w/o discussion from the own er of the "so called" Lamb Victim. And that there was no official complaint report filed. This sounds like a case of gross misconduct -

It also disgusts me - he had NO WARRANT FOR THE ANIMAL, NOR A COURT ORDER...it sounds as if he took great advantage of you in that situation. A power hungry officer??

Being an animal rights nut - I have forwarded information about this case to both IDOA and Peta.

This would be best if a news wire picked up your story.

Your children deserve a public apology from this situation. LEt alone, teh very least of a new puppy from the police department. I am outraged by this situation.

I do also, recall the video of the pit-bull puppy. That officer was quite frankly, out of control. I am close with many law enforcemnt personnel who work in the drug infested streets - many have had close encounters with TRAINED ATTACK pit-bulls, the ONLY excuse for shooting an animal is if it actually BITES the officer. And ONLY then.

AAAAAAAAAARGH! I want to just scream.

I am so so so sorry for your loss.

Please let us know if there is ANYTHING else we can do...

So veeeeeery sorry

I know this was tradgic. I know how you feel about saying they would have to come and take her. I went through this with some neighborhood children teasing my dog. My dog was in her yard with locked gates. They neighbor's child was poking sticks through the fence and hitting my boxer. I corrected the child on numerous occasions. I even told the mother to speak to the child. This was about 20 years ago when I was a bit fiesty. I was getting out of the shower and the window was open. I heard my neighbor shouting that he was going to get his gun and shoot that ----dog. I wrapped a towel around my 100lbs. and flew out the back door to my yard right as the madman was pointing a gun at Sugar. I can not print what I said to him, because I would get kicked off of Boxerworld. Well, can you see me tell a 240lb. man what I was going to do to him if he did not put his gun down in a towel. I called the sheriff and told them this whole story. They went to my neighbors home and in not so nice words to never point a loaded gun into my yard. The stupid neighbor thought his child had been bit. The child finally told her father that my dog had not bit her, only licked her. My husband was a city police man at the time. The sheriff told him that I took care of the problem. He went over to my neighboor when he got home and tore him a new one. The child never poked anything at my dog again. My neighboor was afraid of me. He thought that I was crazy. He was partly correct. Boxer Crazy. True story. My husband finally asked me at what point of this incident did I get dressed? Before the sheriff showed up.

I know what you will do to take up for animals that are innocent. Can you imagine if my dog would have been killed over a lick?
If no one really saw what happpened then firearms should be used very carefully.
