update on Chavez and Mia

Thanks for all the prayers. Here is the latest. The Sheriff's Department says that Mia MUST be put down, because she attacked an animal. I don't know how they describe "attack". There were no bites or physical damage. I hate to do this, since I am a Federal Agent, but they will have to force their way into my home to take her! I'll keep you updated. If anyone else has any case laws or newspaper clippings on this, I would love to have them. Thank all of you.

I just read the update, and I wish there was someone or someplace near that can rescue her, if you would be willing and not let them put her down. You've already been through that once. I hope there is a case or laws that can be by your side.

Are the goats they allegedly attacked yours? Who called the sheriff?

If the goat attacked was your own goat surely you have the right to say if the dog is killed or not?

Gosh I am so very sorry to read this. Unfortunately I think livestock have the upper hand, particularly in your area. Do you have access, or know someone who does, to West Law or Lexis Nexis? They are both legal search engines with case law on them. Do a search for dogs & livestock in TX. If you can't then you can go to your court library and do manual searches there. Disregard local case law, concentrate on appelate.

Can you contact an attorney who might be interested in animal rights? Call PETA - I know I don't agree with them all the time, but they might be able to refer you to someone. What about calling the HUSA (Humane Society of the US)?

I am so sorry. I can't believe any of this story. Try a Utah based shelter, Best Friends. They have sprung many dogs on death row.
