Ugh..that's a very big wound! I love his face in the collar pic! You can tell he is not a happy camper. I hope he starts feeling better soon.

I still seem to be having problems with Tyson - his stitches were fine this morning however once the day progressed and the more excited he got the middle part of the stitch area is bleeding a little again. It stops because he lays on the stitches then when he gets up I think it is dried to the blanket and starts again. It isn't really bloody it is more like a little watery blood if that makes any sense. I'll be so glad to have him back to his normal self...lol I have never dealt with anything like this before so needless to say I am being an overprotective mom!

A little clear watery colored blood is OK! Just watch for signs of infection, like green/yellowish discharge or pus!

That was my next question he is taking 750 mg of cephalexin twice per day can he still get an infection during this or should he be ok.

Wow, I just caught this thread. What a tough little man. Could he have caught himself on something sticking out from the fence? I hope he gets used to the collar. ? A couple of years ago, right after Hurricane Katrina when we had just then replaced our fence, Zoe caught her private area on a bolt  and needed 5 stitches. She got used to the e collar pretty quickly. It took her only about two days to learn to run up behind us and ram us with it. Wishing your baby a speedy recovery. :)

Thought I would give an update...

Tyson and his "eye look" finally took it's toll today. He is resting comfortably up on the couch with daddy without the cone collar. ***Hanging my head in shame*** I took the cone collar off to give him a break and while I could keep my eye on him. His chest is very sensitive and the collar has been rubbing it pretty bad and irritating him. He has been so good with having it off - he hasn't so much as turned to the side of the stitches. I think he is just happy to lay his head on something soft and relax. He is trying to run and play however mean ol mom will not let him and it breaks my heart. I know though because I am mean and won't let him do the things he wants too right now that he will be fine in no time. The wiggle butts are back and I am enjoying every minute of it. Oh and while on the couch it looks as if his smooshed up face is smiling. Gosh he is adorable!

I will update again tomorrow

I had to chuckle a little to hear Tyson got to you! ;) To be honest, every moment we spent with Grunt when he was in the hospital, that e-collar came off, I couldn't stand THE LOOK!! He always did hate what we called the "evil-collar". As long as you're watching Tyson to make sure he doesn't get to his stitches, I don't see the harm in taking it off, particularly if it's starting to irritate. I bet he's one grateful little boy! :) Continuing to send healing vibes!

Judging from the picture you posted I would have given in to that look also! I don't see any harm in taking the collar off as long as you are right there to watch him. I'm sure he is enjoying his freedom.

As far as the bleeding goes I think that is normal. My daughter was bitten by our neighbor's rat terrier two months ago. For the first few days he wound would weep a kind of redding clear fluid and the dr said it was totally normal. She had two gashes the stitched on wept and healed faster, the dermabonded gash could not weep and became infected. So maybe the fluid coming out is actually healthy?
