My poor Tyson...Today we (Tyson, Delilah (min pin), Mayson (son)and myself) were outside playing. I brought Delilah in to put her in her cage and all of a sudden hear Mayson scream mom Tyson needs your help. I went out there and Tyson was standing there I asked Mayson what was wrong and he said his side - I looked and there was a patch of skin that was torn back. Probably the size of a softball. I panicked of course got them in the house and put Ty in his cage so I could call the ER vet. They said to hold a towel on it till I got there 45 minutes away...which didn't help me any.

I asked Mayson what happened and according to Mayson the chow next door bit him - however I do not see how the chow got to him through the fence and did this much damage. None the less they said they would sedate him and I made sure they would not use ACE and they said absolutely not with a boxer. So that made me confident in that aspect.

They went to take him back and he was pulling and trying to get away from the lady to be with me and I had to take him back there for them. I told them he had never been away from me and he was scared which I am sure they knew I just needed to feel better about it myself. They should be calling me to pick him up in a little while I am anxiously awaiting the phone call and ready to get my baby back home.

Any prayers for Tyson would greatly be appreciated! I will let you know how everything goes.

He has a 4-5 inch laceration on his side and an e-collar to boot. I am seriously freaking out as he is anxious I am anxious and trying to keep him calm so I try to get him in his cage and he is fighting me because the collar is scaring him so he is all in a frenzy as am I and he is bleeding from the stitches. I called the vet and they said he should be ok so for the time being he is in his cage and I am calmed down a little however still a nervous wreck. According to my son (who is 5) the dog next door bit him however I do not see how she could have bit him through the fence and caused this much trauma. I walked up and down the fence looking for anything he could have gotten hung up on and there are no loose fence pieces the only possibility I found was some tree branches sticking up from the bottom of the tree but I don't see those being sharp enough to do this either. So who knows what really happened but I feel terrible! This is my first time ever dealing with this sort of thing so that hasn't helped matters either. Any advice? I have to keep him leashed and calm - no exercise running or jumping for 14 days until I can get the stitches out so it will be an interesting couple days until we both get used to things.

Did you see the chow loose or have you spoken to the owners? Did your son say how the dog got in the fence? They do have those soft collars, we used one when Sophie had a tumor removed from her front leg. She gets really nervous with the hard plastic ones. I hope he heals ok. That is terrible if the people who own the chow let it run loose, especially if they know the dog is unfriendly.
