It has been a while since I have had a pup, but raising our last two Boxer boys they ate twice a day too and did fine. I guess I should not have assumed that this guy would be exactly the same. I am hoping that (even though I will feel like a jerk) low bloodsugar was the cause, and that it was not related to his murmur.. He most definitely gets great food, I will just make sure to feed him at least three times a day for now. It just all freaks me out because of the fact that he has a murmur in the first place..

But remember those murmurs are very common and can be benign and if his collapse was unrelated you have every reason to be optimistic :) No jerks here just all of us learning from each other :) Good luck

No need to feel like a jerk.......we would all much rather that low blood sugar is the reason, and fingers and paws crossed that his wee murmur will be totally unrelated

I can understand your anxiety with this situation. Our pups/dogs depend on us for everything and at times we feel helpless when something goes wrong. When I bought my first Boxer the vet I started using told me to only feed him twice a day. My pup at the time didn't like this at all, became very cranky. So I went back to feeding him more often and he was much happier. Also went to a different vet.

Coincidentally, this same dog collasped from a heart attack and died at the age of 5. It was very sudden and I take comfort in the fact the he didn't suffer with cancer or some other long drawn illness. He had collasped about a year prior to this and I started doing research on these problems at that point. The internet is great.

Anyway, we learn as we go along.

Just wanted to say I am so sorry to hear about Cooper. I so hope it turns out to be something minor. I will keep him in my prayers.

Just wanted to let you know that you and Cooper are in my thoughts and heart. As most people have said low grade murmurs are common in boxers, Torin had one as a pup and grew out of it. Goo luck, hugs & kisses to Cooper from all of us here :) I look forward to seeing a good report from the vet.

I'm SO sorry to hear about your little Cooper! Lots of healing and positive thoughts going out to your little guy. Grunt sends hugs to Cooper, and a special one to you - he always gives hugs to worried moms.

Some young dogs collapse when they vomit....some will vomit when their tums get too empty, this vomit is usually just bile. Paws crossed this episode was due to something like this and not due to any heart problems.

Yah know after you say this Kayo did the same thing when we first got him and he was an older pup. We were feeding twice a day (I thought that wsa enough) and he would puke up basically nothing then collapse like "wow that was ruff" rest for a few then back at it. I started giving him a "snack" and it never came back.

Update on Coop.

Well, went to the vet for boosters today and talked to Doc about the collapse, he agreed that it was most likely low bloodsugar and confirmed that vomiting is not typical of heart issues. He said feeding 3-4 times a day for now is good. Then, he listend to Coop's little heart and said that he can barely hear the murmur now. So.... hopefully it will go away and no more scary episodes will happen. Thanks everyone for all the advice and support. :)
