Hi all. I'm in N.Ca and we're having a nasty heat wave right now. It's 98 outside right now. Last night it never dropped below 80.

I'm keeping Duke inside where it's a bit cooler but unfortunately we don't have AC so it's in the mid-80's indoors. I've been putting ice cubes in his water and giving him ice cubes to play with. He's lying on the floor in the kitchen because that's the coolest place available. Poor baby is miserable :(

Any ideas on other ways to keep him cool? I'm going to try to temp him into my son's baby pool in a little bit.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm in So.Cal so it gets warm here also. I use ice cubes, I put them in his water bowls every couple of hours. (It helps that I am a SAHM) He has a toddler pool that is filled for him, he loves that. We do have A/C so that really helps. I limit his time outside - nightmare for him & us!! He also has a neckband that has some sort of crystals in it - I soak the neck band for an hour or so, wring it out and place it loosely around his neck. Stays cool for a couple of hours, we have found this useful when we have take him out with us. I don't use it when he is fooling around on his own.

I have seen cooling mats for sale on the internet, you fill them with iced water and somehow they stay cool.

I also find that keeping the blinds shut all day helps to keep the house cooler.

Also, if Billy does start to get slightly warm I wet his chest down with cool tap water and that especially helps, this also helps when my children have a fever. (But I use a face cloth on their heads!!)

Good luck & stay cool.

Central Cali ringing in on the thread here... I keep my blinds closed at all times... it may be dark but heck if it helps on the cooling bill I 'm all for it... I feel for you, NO A/C... I have it, but it's so old and outdated I'm grateful for having it, but it works so hard trying to get the house below the 80's... nite time is when we get a nice chill from it...

best of luck,,, lots of fans, keep the air circulating...

another Hot Cali summer coming our way... starting...........NOW

I haven't run into this problem with my boxer... I don't get my puppy til next weekend. But when my bulldog gets overheated I wet the furry part of her ears and that helps. But be careful not to get water inside the ear.

I spray Rogue with a plant sprayer filled with water - she loves it. She also has her own baby pool, & we use fans too. Ice goes in the water bowl & in the pool. :D

in big hot Texas, i also wet a towel with cold water, squize it and lay it flat on the concrete or tiles... they love cooling off on it! :)
