Tough Week for Many of Us

Hello All-This is my first post. I frantically started searching for resources and/or people who knew anything about what I was experiencing... I found Boxerworld and saw how so many of you know exactly how I am feeling. Monday 1/3, we helped our sweet girl, Abby to the Bridge. Abby was diagnosed with lymphoma in August and fought a good 4 1/2 months until it won. She came out of remission when we returned from visiting our families over Christmas break. Within 10 days she became a different dog. It was heartbreaking to watch. At the same time that this was happening, I got the call that I would be deploying within 4 days to help with the tsunami relief efforts (I'm in the Navy).

I began panicking... How could I leave her in this condition? How could I make my husband decide alone when to put her to sleep? HOW COULD I NOT BE THERE FOR HER IN HER FINAL MOMENTS??? I OWE THAT TO HER!! Well, I suppose that God works in mysterious ways. Within 2 days of the call, Abby went downhill fast... She stopped eating, began vomiting what little water she could stomach and starting living in her doghouse outside. I believe that she wanted us to say goodbye together. She didn't want me to leave her and worry. She wanted me to be at peace and for me to know that it was ok. She would be in a much better place where she is happy and healthy. So she let me know when it was time and I was able to be there and hold her, whispering over and over how much I loved her. I am eternally grateful for that.

My thoughts are with you others who have also had the same week as mine. I take comfort in the fact that all of our wonderful Boxer Angels are at the Bridge together.

Abby was my first baby. I know how endearing our Boxers are to us, and so you guys will understand this... I made a tribute to her, and if you are interested and have time, I'd love to share it with you.

I look forward to posting here more, and hopefully in the future when my heart doesn't ache so much, it will be happy posts with a new puppy.

I also left behind a wonderful husband and an 18-month old. I have no idea how long I will be deployed. There are no words for how difficult this week has been for me.

I just looked at Abby's tribute web site...how wonderful; I felt like it would have been such a privilege to have met Abby. I am very sorry that your Abby is gone...she is a wonderful and beautiful girl. Leaving your family during this time to help in tsunami must be so very hard to do. Please know that I am sending you lots of healing vides and hope that your time in tsunami is safe for you. It is so hard for me to read story such as Abbys without bawling my eyes out. When I joined BW I was in so much pain that I could verly type Magic's story. The posts that I received from Boxer World Pals really helped me during my greiving process. Good bye sweet Abby...I wish I could have met you. Magic...Please give Abby "Boxer Loves".

Your tribute to Abby is beautiful; reading everything on it has me in tears. Abby seemed like a wonderful furbaby; Heck, that memorial to her made me miss her and I don't even know her! I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet ...

I am so sorry for your loss - and be safe over there helping out with the tsunami relief efforts, that is a commendable act on your part!

I am so sorry for you loss of Abby, Lymphoma took my boy Gunther in July, just 5 weeks after he was diagnosed. I know firsthand how devastating this disease is and I am so sorry you and Abby had to experience this. I helped Gunther to the bridge as well, still wishing there was more that I could have done. There is little I can say to ease your pain just know that you and Abby are in our thoughts and prayers and that she is finally pain free. You loved her very much and she certainly loved you very much, holding on as long as she did, that alone speaks volumes. Godspeed courageous Abby, run free.
