oh! i forgot to say.... a friend of mine is a vet helper and she is present at the surgeries..... she explained to me how awfully the puppies yelp during the procedure even though there has been the anaisthisia.....
it is just horrible... :(

Good for you I say. Personally, I think the US is really out of date on this - it's illegal here in the UK and tail docking shall be soon as well. When you see natural boxers all the time - it starts becoming quite obvious that ear cropping is just so so unnecessary. I absolutely adore Higgins's ears - they are just so soft and floppy and full of expression.

I just can't let this go. She needs to find a vet that knows how to do proper anesthesia. Number one, for the safest anesthesia, the puppy should be intubated and on a gas anesthesia machine. And, if the pup is able to yelp, it is not under an anesthesia.

My pups are sleeping and feel nothing. I know, because I am there. It is all in the experience of the cropping vet and the person doing the aftercare. It should not be painful!!!! I get more complaints from my pups, when I trim their nails than when I change their ear tapes.

Just remember, you have to decide soon. There is a point where you can't crop anymore, I think its around 15wks. After that, the ear crop won't stand because the cartlidge will begin to form to an ear that sits.

Actually, 8-12 wks is the prime age, but it can be done up to 15 wks. Some say even 16, but not recommended. I did a TON of research on it before I had Brandi cropped at 13 wks. Here are some of the links I used for info:

I'm with you on this one. Its the same type of anesthesia used for a spay, neuter, other surgery. I can't imagine a dog being awake and having feeling during that. OUCH!! Need to find a better vet indeed.
