Why did/didn't you get there ears cropped and tails clipped??

Is it because it is the breed standard???

We didn't do it cause our vet won't. She thinks its inhumane to do that when there is no purpose. I agree with her. I think Chey looks so cute with her floppy ears and that tail has a good wack in it.

The tail is usually done at 2 days old. Ears are an option.......my Jake has natural ears and his tail is docked.

Both of mine have natural ears, and they look so cute that way, not to say that they don't look cute clipped (I've debated on whether or not to do it). It seems like it would hurt, so I never got it done, plus I think by the time I got them it was too late. Both of them have docked tails, they were done when I got them.

tails are done around 3 days old , unless you are in europe they dont dock in alot of european countries , any time after that it is a amputation, and cruel. But ears are done around 12 weeks and its a choice ..maybe some people veiw it as cruel , but its a choice.

Our breeder docked Brutus' tail at two or three days old. I was kind of sad cause his tail had the cutest little white tip on it when he was born. I've heard that it's done because boxer tails are so big and thick that they're prone to a lot of damage which would be much worse for them than docking them.

We had Brutus' ears cropped because we were considering showing him and we also thought it would make him look more regal and tough. That being said, after going through the experience and seeing him the day after it was done, we will NEVER do it again. I don't think I've ever felt so bad about something I've done before.

Muggsy and Jack came with docked tails. Jack's looks funny...they did not do a good job but considering who we rescued him from this is no surprise. We did not get their ears cropped. I don't want to go through any surgeries or trauma that we don't have to. I figure there is enough trauma that we have no control over. I do think cropped ears are cute I just don't know that they are worth the work that is put into them. And they look so sad with their ears taped up like that.

both mine are cropped and docked. Like everyone else said, tails are docked at 2-3 days old, before feeling is developed there. Ears are definately choice.

IMO, i would never want a strong, powerful tail on my dogs, besides injury to themselves, just having friends over w/ dogs w/ tails, stuff gets knocked off tables, drinks spilled and etc.. has made me so relieved that my 2 do not have long tails. Cash and Nikki's ears are cropped because both were to be show dogs. (even though Cassius never made it, i still would have done it) I love the look of a cropped boxer, but i can also appreciate a boxer w/ beautiful, nice laying natural ears. Again, it is personal choice. my 2 never took longer than a day to recoup from earcrops, and endure the constant posting and re-posting w/out a problem. I dont believe the process is as "inhumane" as people who have never experienced a good earcrop, think. Most vets do not crop because it takes a lot of expertise, practice and artistic skill to be good at earcropping. Im sure you have all seen HORRIBLE crops.. which is why these "great" vets are few and far between. (and why so many people will travel far and wide to use their expertise.)

Zeus came to us w/docked nail and natrual ears. Isis came with her tail docked but we decieded not to have her ears done. I like the look of the natural ears. Although I do think that the cropped ears when done right look wonderful on a boxer.

Coco's tail was docked at 3 days by the breeders, I like the nubby. We chose not to have her ear's cropped. It was a decision that we went back & forth on several times. I talked to several people, got some referrals for a good vet, called & talked to four differant offices. In the end we just decided not too. It is costly, we weren't planning to show, I was concerned about having them look right in the end. I wanted a short cut as opposed to the long cut and every time I mentioned that to someone in the vet/hospital they criticized me for it so I just said forget it, it's not necessary and floppy is cute. To be honest there are times I wish we would have went ahead and done it. I really like the look of a good cropped ear. But, either way I love my girl and she would be the same sweety with cropped ears as she is with floppy.
