To Crop and Clip or Not To Crop and Clip that is the question..........

Our Jag had his tail cropped at 3 days old and I am happy that it was done. I can't imagine him running around the house with that big nub with an extended whip.
As far as the ear cropping, (which by the way is not illegal in Ontario, Brittain) we had Jag's ears done because we simply like the regal look of a boxer with the ears erect. I believe it is our choice and if the dog's ears are done by a reputable Dr. there should be minimal if any pain.
We went to a Dr. about 1 1/2 hours from our home who is well known for his work. People come from far away as far as the USA to have their pets done by him. I think if you do your homework and look out for the best you can give your dog, it can be a positive experience for all.
Now, the constant taping and postings are a lot of work and you must be dedicated to this. Believe me you figure out all of the little tricks to help the tappings go better each time and it is so worth it when the ears start to stand on their own. I truly do love the natural ear look too but my preference is for the cropped look.
I used to tell my hubby, "never again, I will never have another cropped dog", (because of the work involved) but now that we know the method and have the experience it really isn't that bad at all.

Rocky's tail came docked- and we left his ears natural. I think it should be a choice for the owners. My husband wanted to crop his ears because he likes they way it looks and I did not, and in the end I won! I just think they look so cute with the natural ears and did not see any reason to put Rocky through any pain.

Abby came docked of course but there is no way I would want a boxer with a tail. My SIL's husky/shepard's tail has actually nearly caught on fire with a candle! I also hate being whipped with it - bad enough that our horses hit us all summer long with their tails. My mom actually got a puppy with the tail and they were able to dock it at around 12 weeks. It was a procedure that required being put out but she was up and at it the next day. It didn't bother her.
As for ears, Abby is natural but we taped her ears for proper ear carrage. Our next boxer will probably be a show prospect therefore cropped. I love nicely cropped ears and nicely set natural ears. Again to reafirm Jags_Mommy, it is not illegal to crop in Ontario.

Docked, but floppy all the way!
Jacob's tail was docked when we got him. Luckily he was young enough that his ears were not touched. I'm not too fond of the cropped ears. I just don't think that they look right, & then when I think of the procedure, NO WAY!!!
His tail though, I'm glad that it's docked. My parents have a German Shepard, Sam, & her tail hits everything & is constant ly in the way. My Mom says it doesn't bother her, but it sure bugs the crap out of me.

I prefer the look of a cropped dog, but not on all boxers. I think boxers with a lot of flash are pretty left floppy, but a brindle or fawn plain is very beautiful cropped. Whites are gorgeous with floppy ears. Just a matter of taste, but if you do crop there is a lot of research that must be done. Finding a good vet who can give references and photos of his work, amount of time put into taping ears, cost. Just my humble opinion.
Now tails...with all the wiggling I can't say I would want a long tailed boxer.

Both of mine are docked b/c that's how they came, as others have stated they were docked at a few days old. Paisley isn't cropped because I didn't really care if I got them done or not. I figured that because she's my first boxer and just a pet, it didn't matter. I got Matlock with his ears cropped. My breeder typically crop the dogs they plan to show, it's just general habit. Cropping doesn't bother me, nor does docking.
