Make sure the puppy food doesn't have a corn product in it.. That may be it... Have you tried the fish and potatoe and some of the other non-allergenic foods, they are expensive but maybe you can get that too work.. The pro-plan we use is fish and rice and for my one who threw up really worked.. If you can't figure it out with the food I would go for the tests...

Poetic Thing

My baby girl did this too. At first we always thought cause she just drank too much water after she ate. After discussing this with our vet and blood tests...she was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure/Kidney Disease. Upon switching her to a low protein/sodium/phosphorous food she no longer got sick.

Your baby may just have allergies (cross-fingers) but make sure you and your vet rule out CRF/KD.

Update

Wow! Sorry it has been so long for an update, but I finally solved the problem w/out taking any drastic measures. Since Buddy only vomited his food in the morning and not at night, I just stopped feeding him in the morning. Problem slightly solved. We no longer have to deal with the food on the carpet clean up, but once in awhile I will find spots of bile on the carpet. Thankfully we also solved that problem with the best cleaner on the market - vinegar and water.

Throwing Up

I had such a problem with this not too long ago. My baby Fenway is now 13 months old and we seem to be in the clear. I tried everything from the rice and low fat cottage cheese diet to switching foods a total of 5 times. The vet didn't seem to know what to do (I have since switched due to frustration). I did however, switch his food to brightlife at around 8 months old and the throwing up seemed to stop almost immediately. I also give him the raw advantage (small ground up chicken, carrots, among other things which are supposed to help with settling their stomach) and he loves them. One thing my vet never offered was the skin allergy test. I heard that they do it just like they do on humans. I was never officially told, but believe that he is allergic to both the wheat and corn and this food I am recomending is an allergy food and not too expensive. The Nutro seemed to make it worse for my baby. Just too rich and then mixed with the allergies.

Hope this helps a bit!

Wow - are you really only feeding him once per day? Dogs usually throw up bile in the mornings because they are starving. If he's doing that -- he really needs you to put something in his stomach.

I would also agree that if he throws up his food, perhaps there is something in the food that is not agreeing with him. That, or he's too active right after hea eats (you should keep him still for about an hour or so after eating)

What are you feeding him?

I have a friend with labs that used to throw up bile every morning before they got to eat. Her vet simply said it was from an empty stomach. She suggested giving them a biscuit right before bed. She did that and no more throwing up. Just a thought.
Also my female was doing this but not right after she ate. We made a trip to the vet after a week of this and she had blood work. Pancreatitis (sp?) was found. After treatment all was fine.

I just took my 16 month old to the vet this morning for the same thing. The vet put her on rice and cottage cheese diet for a few days. She also wants her on Pepcid AC for a week. Has anyone ever tried the Pepcid AC?

If it is undigested food that is being thrown up I would be willing to bet it's a food related allergy. Corn and wheat are the most common allergies in dogs, check the food you are feeding and possibly switch to one that does not contain corn or wheat.

I had given Pepcid to both Rocky (when he was having the vomiting undigested issue as well) and to my cat in the past. With Rocky it didn't help because it wasn't addressing his issue, with my cat it did because she had too much acid in her stomach.

If the dog is vomiting bile then they are very hungry and must be fed. Snacks before bedtime should get rid of early morning vomiting.

I don't think this possible diagnosis was mentioned but I'll throw it out there in case anyone else runs into this issue. If your dog is expelling UNdigested food, it can sometimes be caused by a megaesophagus. We had a dog in rescue with this condition. The food was just sitting in her (overly large) esophagus and not making it to her stomach, which is why the food was totally undigested when it came back out. If you've got a chronic vomiter, this is something to consider. It is not curable but there are medications and other things you can do to help the problem.

fast eating

A jello mold type dish with a post in the middle will also slow down feeding. IT doesn't do much for the decor of a room, but it will make them work hard to get the food out.
