Thinking about getting another boxer

We've had Rocky for about 2 months now, he's 3 1/2 months old. He's so wonderful and I want him to have a playmate. What is a good age to bring another pet into the home. Rocky is definately OUR baby and I don't want him to become jealouse if we do get another boxer. Also, would it be better for me to get a male or female? Any advise?

As a general rule your best bet is going to be male/female combo, then male/male, and lastly female/female. Two females have the most potential for fighting. As far as the age for bringing in a second boxer, I think that depends on the individual. Brutus is 10 months old right now and I am in the process of looking for a little brother or sister for him. I am probably going to wait until March because potty training is going tobe a little easier once it starts to warm up here.

About the age, it is up to you and your family and how much you think you can handle. Your babies are very young still and still have the very terrible teenage years ahead of them, I don't know if I would like to go through that with two. BUT if you think you are up for a challenge go for it! Why not rescue an older boxer, might be easier than two little ones that can be very difficult in the coming years.

2 females

I honestly don't understand this thing about 2 females not getting along 2gether.We have 2 females and they are just great together, and our first one was (is) a bit dominant and they are the best of friends. You just have to watch them a bit at the begining but it,s wonderful to have 2 of them, and it's funny because at first you get the second 1 to keep your 1st one company but then you realize you are as attached to the second one as you are to the first one. But really it's great.LOL.

I'd say go for it if you think you can handle two Boxer puppies! I have 3 Boxers whom are 5 years old, 9 months, and 12 weeks. The two youngest are handfuls but I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

While some females get along together, The majority of them do not. One of your females isn't even a year yet.. :) They could be the bestest of friends until they hit maturity and decide they hate each other.. It all depends.

I personally think it is a good idea to at least wait until the first one has some training under it's belt...um, collar... you know what I mean. :) It can be very difficult to try to get anything accomplished with two puppies, when one is a little more mature and obedient you can spend some time with the new puppy and train him/her and the older dog can also (hopefully) help by teaching things by example like going out to potty and such. The ideal way to go IS male and female, then male/male, the last female/female. There are ALWAYS exceptions, but better to be careful rather than sorry in the end. A lot of times (as you will read if you do some searches about females fighting) the aggression doesn't start until both are mature and then they can (and many times will) fight to the death. I have only ever had two males together and they did very well, and like I said there are exceptions, but there are also a lot of sad stories here about two females together, so definitely just do your research before making a decision. Best of luck! Two boxers are lots of fun!

I love my Max and just want the best for him. So, I wonder if being the only baby is the best no matter what the age. Some days I think it will be so great for him to have someone to play with. He loves playing with other dogs and gets so excited. But, would he like to share his home with someone else. HHHHHHHMMMMMMMM? Something to ponder. I don't know the answer but if I do get another pup it would be a female. Why take the risk?

Well, I'm about to get a male puppy, Kirra is now 15 months old. I wanted to wait until she was pretty solid in a lot of things, that way I can concentrate on training the pupper and Kirra can help :). I also have a minpin and he is 8 1/2 years but I know there won't be any issues with him. Good luck on your decision - I can't wait for my guy to arrive, only 2 more weeks to go.

Tyson was the baby for 5 1/2 years until we brought Chloe home, they are both a little jealous when one is getting the attention but he loves her so much and she adores him. I think we really lucked out with the quick bond these two formed. I would get another one, I will never have just one again, heck I’d have 20 if FH would go for it ;)
