Feel Sorry for Me, 16 Feet and 1 Man!!!!!

This is very funny, and I really identify with all of you!!! I live in a 2 storey house in the country, and have 4 boxers, and 1 man. To tell the truth, I do not know who drags in more mud, the 4 dogs, or the one man!!! I only clean my kitchen floor once a week. I know that sounds gross, but I have given up. I work too many hours, and it always gets dirty again. I will let the dogs all run into the basement, where they will eat and drink, and leave them there for about 15 minutes. I then allow them up, 1 at a time, to have their feet wiped off with a towel by the door. But, sometimes this does not work, if my husband lets them in, he will not wipe their feet, too lazy!!! So they all burst in and get mud on the kitchen floor and the carpets!!! But dogs can do this, I would expect a person to be more careful. My husband works in a grain elevator, he drags in mud, corn, soybeans, etc. And sometimes he will not even take off his shoes, but drag mud everywhere!!! Like I said, I give up!!! I have accepted that my house will not be in "Better Homes and Gardens." I do my best to shampoo the carpets and mop the floor, but sometimes I just let it stay dirty till I feel like cleaning it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lillibirdy it's kind of one of those things you didn't really train him
to do it just sorta happened. But like I said he hates having his
paws wiped so it started as a game. I would prance around and
tell him to get the mud off his paws and he would jump around
with me. After awhile he just followed the hand signal (good thing
too because if anyone saw me prancing around the way I did
they would think I'd totally lost it)

Swiffer Wet, every other day is the only thing I've found to try and keep the muddy footprints manageable. I'm with Wendy....sometimes you've just gotta realize its a losing battle and not freak out too much.

With animals in the house, you have to accept that things will never be perfect. Before I had animals, I was like Martha Stewart and kept everything spotless. I could not stand to see anything with dust or dirt on it. But I was alone and lonely. When I got animals, my house stays forever dirty, but my life is fuller and happier with them. I realized you cannot sweat the small stuff, floors will keep getting dirty, carpets will get forever stained because of accidents, and your house will always smell of dog, no matter how hard you work at it. I work many hours at a stressful job and realized life is too short to keep cleaning like mad. So I stopped it, accepted that my house will never be spotless, and started to enjoy life a bit more!!!! I am not a pig, I still clean when I can, and my house looks better than many I have seen!!! I enlisted the help of a Bissell carpet cleaner, it works wonders when there is an accident on the carpet!!! Just fill it up with soap and warm water, and bam, the stain is lifted!!! I found out this is the best way to keep the carpets from getting stained!!!

My guys come in through the kitchen, I have carpet on my deck outside so that helps, then carpet when they come in and then a swiffer wet jet for the prints on the tile but most of the prints get picked up by the carpet outside.

Oh, I am not desiring a house beautiful award, . Between the bird poop under the stands, feathers and the dog mess, it's a lost cause, . But I am just really appreciating the muddy foot print hints. Thanks! I am going to get me both a carpet for outside the door, AND a swiffer!

It helps with the mud problem if you have mulch in your yard - like redwood bark, so they actually don't walk on the dirt and mud, but the bark. When we put the mulch down, we noticed a big improvement in the mud problem. But we still have the dirty towel by the back door - the sign of a dog owner. My cousin came in, saw the towel and laughed - "Yeah, that's my usual job too!" My friend has a Boxer, Max, who wipes his own feet. She put a towel for him and he scuffs his own paws on it when he comes in And I have white carpet too, and the only reason it doesn't look like a total mess is because I have those stupid scatter rugs all over the place, am diligent with the Bissell when needed and learned about Folex Carpet Stain remover. What a pain - but our babies are definitely worth it!

We tried the whole bootie thing and for us it didnt work but for others it has, he live in a warm climate so we just rinse there feet of with the water hose and let them into the house and they have gotten the whole walk on the door mat thing!
