you guys should have seen me on tuesday I was screaming and well...
I'll start at be begining I am arachnophobic, I was bitten by a large (15") spider in Africa. It left me with semiparalysed hip for months.
So on Tuesday I went to my neighbor who is my bestest friend ever and my daughter tells me " Mommy you have a big spider on you"Argh
big for her is a tenth of an inch .I ask her "where is it?" on your side"
" Oh and how big" I couldn't see anything I had a work out tank top snug.
When she showed me the size I looked and contorted girated and otherwise twisted my body and sure enough I had a big , a BIG tarentula just so fuzzy did I say BIG . I'm not sure how I removed it amidst screaming jumping and being histerical but I did it! I didn't have my usual reaction which is basically shutting down ears ringing, blindness and well blader et all...
So talk to your daughter about it and reassure her because it's really no big deal if you are not afraid .But when you are it rules your life.

Fabienne, I think if I went through your ordeal I'd be arachnophobic too. Fortunately my 3 year old daughter got over it quickly since her older siblings thought the tarantula was so cool! She really needs to adjust to the desert wildlife since this is home now and the critters were here long before we were. :)

Shannon, that's one really good reason to "catch and release"!
I don't want to have to feed them, they're on their own when it comes to mealtime.

Sarah,

You are a much better woman than I, thats for sure.

Oh no, don't say that! I mean, thanks for the compliment and all :D but being afraid of spiders has nothing to do with whether or not someone is a better woman. Lots of fabulous people are terrified of bugs and mice and various other creepy crawlers!

Plus I don't really count as a woman because I'm only 16 :D. Technically I'm a girl, but that suits me just fine!! :D

I feel itchy all over just reading this thread!

I lived in Houston for awhile and being a midwestern girl, did NOT adapt well to the big water roaches. Every time I vacuumed I heard them getting sucked up... they'd crawl along the edges of rooms and mostly die deep along the edge of the carpets, and not always be seen, but the noise reminded us they were always around... ewwww.

In Milwaukee the problem is centipedes as well as spiders. Spiders are "centipede bait" so while spiders don't bother me as much (talking small spiders here, not tarantulas!!), I know the centipedes are not far behind when the spiders come out. Normally, I'm a level-headed person but I scream and "fweak out" if I see a centipede and either make one of my teenage boys get rid of it, or try to get the vacuum fast.

The newest creepy-crawly around here in recent years is the earwig... does anybody else have those? Totally gross!

Giant cockroaches are the worst!! I grew up in Houston and will never forget doing a summer play at my high school.. In the middle of summer in a nice cool dark theater, I went up in to the seats to get my purse and one buzzed me. I always thought they had birds up there until this, they were that loud..

This thread is giving me the heebee-jeebies.

I hear ya there...I, too, grew up in Houston. Used to come home from work in the afternoons and they were flying around and I would have to dodge them to get into my house.

Another time I can remember sleeping over at a friends' house and after we turned off the lights I heard something crunching...we turned on the light and it was a huge roach that was in the bag of cheetos!! It was that big that you could "hear" it eating!

Holy Crap!! As I sit here trying to calm down from the cold sweats just at the mention of spiders, I'm thinking, if I were you, I'd move!! My home is full of house spiders and we all freak. My kids don't like spiders and I am terrified of them, so when we see one, it usually turns into a panicked discussion over who will kill it. I too have a strict policy in my house...If you don't pay rent and I don't like you..you must go!! My fear comes from the 5th grade when 4 boys thought it would be funny to fill up a paper lunch bag with spiders, blow it up and pop it over my head!! Spiders were in my hair and down my shirt..it was not pretty!!
OK..now I need a valium, or drink...calming substance of some sort! foolicon

Of course I didn't read your warning, and I almost fainted.

This is my biggest fear. Ever.
