The More People I Meet, The More I Like My Dogs!!! (Rant)

Took the day off from work today so I could take Ella for her teeth cleaning. We had just returned home and I was logging onto BW to post a question about gums when I heard tires squealing and a horn honking. I looked out the window to see an unfamiliar SUV come to a screeching halt in my across-the-street neighbor's driveway. (A house that we are watching while my neighbors are out of town, btw.) A man I've never seen before jumps out, and runs up to their front door. Obviously, I was alarmed, and went out to investigate. As I got closer, I could hear a little dog howling and yelping. The man was trying to whip a small black dog with a leash he had in his hand. I shouted to him to ask what was going on and if everything was alright and his response was "No! I don't have all day!" He said he'd lost his dog and then irritably asked if it was my house. I explained that I was house sitting. (In the meantime, his dog had escaped into my neighbors' backyard.) He said I could go back there and get her if I wanted, but "She'll probably bite you." I went to the gate and whistled, but, obviously, the dog wouldn't come. He became even more agitated and said "Oh, you're not going to go back there?" I explained that it was locked and my husband had the key. (Not to mention, why would I go try to catch a terrified, unfamiliar dog when he'd just told me I'd probably get bitten!?) As we walked to the other side of the house to see if the dog had come out the other side he snapped "Well, I can see you're not going to be much help." I responded "Well then, I'll let you handle it," and walked home. I didn't feel the need to 1.) stand there and take abuse from an idiot stranger or 2.) help this man get his dog back. Obviously, the dog would be better off ANYWHERE else. Shortly after returning home, I watched the dog tear back down the street and the man get back in his car and leave. I hope that dog runs its little butt off and NEVER gets caught by that evil man! Seriously, WHAT is wrong with people!?

Wow

I feel your frustration. It's to bad you can't just take the dog away from people like that. I think you probably did the best thing you could do.

I'm thinking caffeine abuse or 'roid rage. Or both. Or any other combination of substances that should not be combined.

We had a weird incident a few months ago, when a complete stranger in a large SUV forced us off the road (we also have an SUV) and yelled at us about some incident that had happened a month before in the intersection we had just crossed. We had done nothing wrong but all I could think of was 'roid rage and how do I avoid us getting beat up (BTW the guy was huge and hubby... is not :) ). He was large, sweaty, dressed in gym wear, and making zero sense combined with threatening gestures, but very angry... Our Lara was barking her head off from the car, making things worse.

So, much to my aggravated husband's surprise, I kept apologizing (I still don't know for what, but I was very convincing) and kept reassuring the guy that we understand (huh?), we are terribly sorry, and that it will never happen again. Finally, ten minutes of screams later, he left and we were able to leave.

All is well when it ends well...

I agree with jbfshn33 - alot of times prefer animals to people. I'm glad the litte dog ran away from that abusive owner. Some people shouldn't own animals. I think u handled the situation very well!

I totally agree.

People are often stunned when I say that I do not like people but I love dogs. Especially since I am in the health care field. But dogs appreciate you more than people do and they treat you so much better.

I bought a sweatshirt last week that say...I Love Dogs...Its Humans That Annoy Me!!

Everytime I hear a story like this it just lessens my respect for the human race.

I'm in the health care field as well and I agree totally!

I agree with you guys and I've said the same for years. I prefer four legged animals to the two legged....No hidden agendas, un-conditional love, and a sweet pure heart.

If I never have another girlfriend in my life, or get married, I am totaly fine with that. As long as there are dogs to adopt life is gooooddd!!!

Im not trying to be sexist here ladies. Im just explaining my frusteration about human beings, and how difficult it is to live with one. I can report that I have had a few great relationships. But I think Id rather just have a dog.

:)

Again, I hope I do not offend. I know relationships take work, and the door swings both ways.
