...I am, however, very concerned that your average Joe with no experience or research of the Boxer breed will now go out and buy a Boxer with anticipation of having the next Greatest American Dog... The show was very focused on obedience and showed a lot in regards to the training that goes into a well mannered and well adjusted dog, but as dog owners, we all know it's not that simple! I'm hopeful that people who may have been introduced to the Boxer breed via this show will do adequate research before aquiring a Boxer, or any of the dogs featured as the number of our precious pets that are in shelters already is astounding! I shudder to think of how many more could eventually become owner surrenders if the owner goes into ownership with the mindset that the dog will train itself, or automatically be the perfect pet... I wish there was some kind of PSA during or at the conclusion of the show talking about the hard work, training, and dedication goes into owning a pet.

I, too, am very concerned, and I hope, hope, hope the BYB's are not acquiring more Boxers with the intent of producing more puppies. :(

On a happier note, DBF Steve had Oscar at a local event in our neighborhood, Woofstock. He overheard a mom telling her young son, "Yes, that IS a Presley dog." :)

isn't that sweet! "A Presley Dog" awwwh

I really really am soooo proud of Travis and Presley but also would worry about the demand of the boxer with ppl not doing their own research about the breed, it would be a horrible situation if even more BYB's sold to uneducated ppl... I hope there isn't an alarming amount of pups being forced to have more pups becuz ppl wanna produce the "Greatest American Dog"...

I think alot of boxer rescues are going to be overwhelmed when people "impulse buy" and can't cope with the boxers boisterous personality

Looks like in about 6 months we all are gonna be adopting another unwanted boxer from the rescue groups.

I agree with whomever said it here that with those 3 dog expert judges, there should have been some type of disclaimer about the ownership and responsiblility that dogs require. Then maybe there would be less of a "want" purchase like the bunnies and chicks at Easter time or all those unwanted dalmations after Disney's movie.

8 weeks production ~ viewers only saw 8 hours. We all know, any dog can be good for 8 hours. They certainly didn't show the frustrations, the pee accidents, the all-out fights ~ only the cutsie parts of the dogs behavior. Boxer's are one breed that takes all you got to raise. They certainly ain't a "throw the ball, feed them and ignore them" type of pooch.

At Petsmart on Saturday we had 3 people comment on Johann because he was a boxer like Presley.

1 person asked if they were usually as quiet as the Presley was on TV. My husband almost fell over laughing. We said that they are high energy dogs.....as Johann was quivering because he had to sit still for 5 minutes.
