Boxer Pal
Gabe is just about 1 year old. He has not done a number 2 in the house for at least 5 months. His peeing on the other hand is a different story. It's gone around my household as an arguement on many levels. I figure i would ask everyone here.
I take Gabe out like once every two hours or so because he has a problem with peeing. He will be just hanging out and walking around or playing with me. And out of nowhere, he will drip a strip of pee while he is walking or just do it very fast.
I have already taken him to the vet for a UTI check and he was clear. He is also not neutered. i heard that neutering can help with the "pee instinct". He has been better but i feel like when he just walking around normal, if i dont take him out, he will just pee. I have thick dark red carpets and when he pees, if i am not watching him, i find out by stepping in it. It's very frustrating.
I can take him out at ANY time and he will pee. My mother takes care of him while i am at work and during that time he spends some time in the crate. So while i'm not home, she babys him. i feel like maybe she may be giving him to much water. She is a "psycho" when it comes to dogs. Always making sure the collar isn't too tight, when it never changes and always putting a bowl of water down. At this point, i am confused about how much water Gabe should have on a daily basis. But when he goes for the water bowl, he attacks it as if he were stuck in the desert. i believe this behavior is why my mother thinks he is dying of dehydration. But the truth is, he will drink as much water as you put in front of him. the wierd thing is, during the night, he holds his pee until the morning every time. occassionaly he'll wake me up early if it's an emergency.
i just need to know if anyone else has had these types of issues. can a dog really drink too much water? can a dog learn to not take a dump in the house, but think it's ok to pee in the house? thanks for any input. and i have read some other posts, but the ones i read seem a little different. i am looking for someone who has seen this exact behavior.
