I get upset too when people mistake vegas for a pit bull- I think pit bulls are beautiful also but I could be reacting to the stigma of them- or it's like insulting my child- "can't you recognize an amazing breed when you see one!"?

But isn't it great when people know he's a boxer! All smiles!

But isn't it great when people know he's a boxer!
Just yesterday, I heard a young boy maybe 5 or so say to his
Mom, " look at that big boxer mommy" I was so tickled and praised the boy for his knowledge of breeds~

We hear it all as well mastiff, pit bull, bulldog, most people
just really are don't know(cat people maybe?) and are just saying
hi in passing anyway.:)

I agree with FreguentFlyr :)

I do understand getting upset when someone calls my puppy another breed, cause im a mom and im defensive.... :) but it is soooo exciting when they know hes a Boxer! I have been fortunate enough for most people to ask if they werent sure... but I have also had kids in out neighborhood recognize him as a Boxer and it just made me feel so good... some people just dont know and instead of asking they assume ....

well ill tell you my personal reason to get upset--whether anyone else is like me or not.

People will not let their dogs play with her..they cross the street and avoid her because they think shes a pitbull. There was recently a dog attack in my neighbourhood by pitbull mastiff crosses..the next day I wasout walking Cinnamon and the news cameraman asked me if she was a pitbull. We're dealing with a pending provincewide breed specific legislation that has made pitbulls look worse and people just jump at the chance of calling other dogs pitbulls. A good example of this was a dog attack that happened about a month ago in a town near me..they labelled it as a pitbull.. it was a german shepherd.

I have gotten very upset over the fact people have called my boxers, pit bulls. I feel thought I have a very good reason. We live in a very small town and our local cops tried to issue me several violations for keeping pits(it is illegale in my town). After about an hour of waving tickets pointing fingers at my babies measuring their fence and so on I proudly got out their AKC papers. Now he knows but yes it made me very mad!!!

i personally don't think that boxers look like pits. i have never seen a fawn pit with a black mask(they may be out there but i have never seen them). even the white boxers don't look like them. a pit does have a bit of a shorter snout but they do not have undershot jaws and their lips aren't near as droopy as a boxer's. i did have two middle school boys stop me and ask me about shibby. one of them did ask if she was a pit and no sooner did he get finished with the question that the other one corrected him quickly, "no, dummy. that's a boxer. jeez!" i had to laugh out loud when he said that.

I guess the thing that bothers me is that if someone thinks one of my babies is a Pit, they look at Nestle, Porter and myself with a kind of disgust. It is almost like the want to say, get those vicious dogs out of here and would never give them a chance. We all know how sweet and delicious our babies are and want to protect them...

I feel bad for those people that will never know the love of a boxer.

I've only had one "he's a pit" run in. We were at the market & Jacob was in the van. I had just stepped up to the counter when the teenager behind the counter said "nice dog". I replied with the usual "thank you", bought my stuff & turned to go back to the van. As soon as I turned my back I heard the teen tell his pal that Jacob was a "boxer - pitt mix". At least in most of the cases listed here previously, the individuals do not know the difference between a boxer & a pitt. In my case, the guy knew but somehow - somewhere got screwed up. I wasn't angry but I was confused as to what this guy was thinking!!!!!

Coco has been mistaken for a Pit as well several times. It only upset me one time because they were freaking. I was being yelled at that I was a bad mother for allowing "that dog" around my children and I better keep it away from them, etc, etc, etc. That bent me out of shape BIGTIME! No amount of discussion was convincing this person that it was a boxer. So.....I went away from everyone else with Coco and left shortly there after. Haven't been back to this woman's house or anywhere near it for that matter. And this was a family member (on my husband's side)! I have had other individuals mistake her but I generally just say nope, she's a boxer and go on. I think to myself "how could you not know" but then I realize not everyone knows everything about all breeds. Geez, I think about how much I've learned just on this site in the last year. Heck, I thought I was pretty knowledgable about boxers until I came here. Not to discourage you from your post or anything, I realize it hurts when your so proud of what you have and someone doesn't recognize that. Just try to look at it like it's their loss, certainly not yours :)
