Boxer Pal
The nest still hasn't been found, but after returning home from a dentist appointment on Monday I discovered a very different-looking Taloxi. She looked as though she had a softball in her right cheek and her face was puffy. Upon closer examination, I saw several whelps all over her body. What to do... what to do... Panic! My first thought was s snake bite, but the whelps didn't make sense for that. Bees? Yellow jackets? I called the vet and he was in surgery. I told the girls I was on the way b/c it looked really bad. Sure enough, once I got there he pops his head out long enough to say she appeared to have been stung and was having a reaction to it. (Ya think?)
I left her there for treatment (benadryl injections) and went home to find the culprits. After walking every inch of my 2 acre back yard with Trallis (who didn't have a single sting), I found nothing. Some holes in the ground, which made me suspect yellow jackets, but not one single flying enemy. I picked Taloxi up that evening and walked the yard with her, as well. I hoped to see a moments hesitation in a particular area considering her ordeal, but no... not one single sign. She and Trallis pounced around as usual and I haven't seen a thing.
I'm giving Taloxi 2 Benadryl/day for her battle scars and itching. All of her swelling is gone and she's her happy-go-lucky self again. Maybe next time she'll run instead of sticking around to fight, but somehow I doubt it. Of course, I hope there won't be a "next time".
