Completely Boxer Crazy
We always talk to Xena. And I do think we're a little bit crazy, we would cover her ears and whisper when we were talking about what Santa was bringing her. She knows a lot of words already, and can also spell "outside."

It's funny, because Dave always used to make fun of my Mom for talking to her animals, and now he does it too!

You will soon find out that they can understand when you spell a word also, they are watching you and can tell by your body language what is going on. 'Smarty pants', the lot of them. ;)
The only thing to do is to learn a different language, then it would only be a short while before they learnt it also. :D

"dog talk"

Yes! I talk to Dempsey J. In fact, I am a middle school teacher and I find that boxers and twelve-year-olds need to be spoken to in a very similar way...I met my significant other at the dog park (cute story for another time) and he tells me now that he thought I was crazy, with the way I talked to my dog. ( I think he still does!)

The dog and I have discussions about "decision making," and "good choices vs. poor choices." When I praise him, I'll say things like "I'm really pleased that you made that decision, Dempsey J. That was a strong behavior choice." Or when I'm unhappy with him, I'll say "Your actions are not appropraite. Let's make some different choices."

I really do treat Dempsey J. just like one of the kids at school. It works! Just like all of you have said, I really believe he "gets it." We have another dog (not a boxer) and though I love her to death, she understands things like "sit" and "down." The boxer is in a class by himself.

Aren't these dogs great? :D

Austin's Mom

Our whole family talks to Aus like he's human. I swear he understands us! Have to spell walk or else he thinks he's going! He talks back to his Dad, tho! It's way too funny to watch!

Boomer'sPapa

Super Boxer
Of course I talk to Boomer. We learned growing up with Sophia that she'd listen intently to any of the three kids if we had a bad day at school....and the best part, she didn't talk back much! :p

My neighbor has a lab that is outside (no inside dogs for him), and he can't stand that I let Boomer stay in the house and that I talk to him as if he were human (which, of course, he is...:D ).

Cheers,

Tams

Boxer Buddy
.....seems to be a common thing for boxer owners.. I talk to my little boy all the time (especially in the morning when I'm getting ready for work - I always let him know that I will "be back"

- Harley is the most vocal dog I have ever known. He talks sooo much.. to us.. to his toys - This was something very new to me so I had to realize he is not "crying" he is talking (that's just the way he does it) Are boxers just very vocal ? If I only knew what he was saying....

We talk to Judge all the time like he is a person. We have no kids so he is our kid. I just love when you talk to them and they turn their heads side to side and perk up their ears as if to say uh huh, yes, I understand you. Arent they the cutest???
