Oh my goodness..........I'm so glad Sydney's OK!! I can imagine how frightened and frantic you must have been!! I've also read on here about putting the food on a cookie sheet, really spreading it out so it takes more time.

I actually don't feed Moab out of a bowl now at all, partly for this reason. I bought him a Tug-A-Jug and use that instead. Basically, its like an old-fashioned plastic milk bottle with a rope coming out of the neck. The bottom screws off so you can put the kibble in then Moab has to work the rope in order to get the food out.

It now takes him about 20 minutes or more to eat a meal because he's eating only 3-5 pieces per bite. Plus, its interactive so its just another game to him. So far, its stood up to some pretty rough treatment as well. I highly recommend this to anyone that has a dog that eats quickly or that simply wants to provide some additional stimulation.

You can find them on Amazon and several other pet websites. Just google Tug-A-Jug ... you'll find it!

Glad to hear you like the tug a jug. I thought about buying one just as a toy but it didn't look very durable. Brady is an inhaler too but I don't think I could use the jug to slow him down, he gets too wild when on a mission. I use to put his food in a treat ball but he would knock over anything that got in his way trying to get the food out.

I just put Brady's food on the kitchen floor. The faster he tried to eat it, the further he spreads it out. Not nice to have to clean the floor every evening when he is done but at least it slows him down. Obviously it doesn't work when I mix stuff in with their food, he still has to eat out of a bowl then. I am going to get him one of those brake fast (or whatever they are called) bowls and the rock trick doesn't work with him.

Good idea Luc,
I was also going to suggest feeding with some sort of toy- a tumbler that drops out kibble, or something like a kong with smaller openings- we have a dumbell shaped rubber toy with holes on the ends, so he has to roll it around to get the food out.
Glad everything is ok too! I need to learn how to do the doggy heimlich.

I am now putting her food on the floor so she cant eat as fast as she has been. It seems to be working fine. Atlas was never like that. He has always been a picky eater. Thanks everyone!!

oh my!! how scary!
both Snatch and Ox have their "cuz" in their bowl.. they have to eat around it.. that slows them down a lot!

We've used tennis balls in the food bowl to slow them down. I'm so glad your baby is okay. That's terrifying.

I hadn't heard of putting the food on the floor, sounds like it would work.
