Boxer Insane
Last night I was feeding Sydney and she was gulping it down like she always does. All of a sudden she did a reverse snort and still had food in her mouth. The food got lodged in her throat and she couldnt breath. I freaked out and yelled for DH. He came in and took her out of my arms, held her upright, rubbed her back and she threw up what little food she sucked down her throat. I was shaking so back. I thought I was going to lose my little girl right there infront of my eyes. She is such a little pig when she eats. Now she only gets a little bit at a time until it is all gone.

O... Thank god you both were there to help her. I am so glad she is ok!

I know I would freak out, plus DH is on the road most of the time during the week! I would be a mess. HUGS to you and Sydney.

Maybe try to put a big rock in her food bowl so that she had to eat around it or try spreading her food out on a towel on the floor so she has try a little hard to get it. It should make her slow down a little.

Wow, how scary! Logan bolts food down too, so I watch him while he eats and take the bowl away periodically and tell him to 'breathe'. I like the rock idea...I'll have to see if I can find one the right size. I'm glad Sydney is ok!

Yes that is scary. Aasha eats his food up like that all the time to. He has done the same thing once or twice. I was wondering on what I could do to make him not do that.

I wish I had advice for you about scarfing, but both of our dogs are nibblers. I'm just so glad Sydney is OK!

I actually don't feed Moab out of a bowl now at all, partly for this reason. I bought him a Tug-A-Jug and use that instead. Basically, its like an old-fashioned plastic milk bottle with a rope coming out of the neck. The bottom screws off so you can put the kibble in then Moab has to work the rope in order to get the food out.

It now takes him about 20 minutes or more to eat a meal because he's eating only 3-5 pieces per bite. Plus, its interactive so its just another game to him. So far, its stood up to some pretty rough treatment as well. I highly recommend this to anyone that has a dog that eats quickly or that simply wants to provide some additional stimulation.

You can find them on Amazon and several other pet websites. Just google Tug-A-Jug ... you'll find it!
