THANK YOU ALL! Carmella loves to get sprayed by the water hose, she even bits the water coming out of it. I was at Petsmart the other day and saw the life jackets, I'll definetly go and get one now. I just wish we would have some good weather here in Virginia so that Carmella and I could TRY to go swimming......if not swimming then sun bathing....HA Ha!

Sammi loves to swim. Our pool is above-ground, so she can't get in by herself (and there's an awful lot of barking and jumping if we go in without her), but when we visit family in Florida, there's an in-ground pool that we just can't keep her out of! We've made sure to teach her where the exits are, but being the child that she is, we have to go in and force her out of the pool!
I think each family has to learn what their furbabies can or cannot do, and provide the correct safety precautions.

Bubba sinks, I took him out & was holding on to him like you do with kids & as soon as i let go he was vertical, he was trying to paddle but his big ole paws were going straight up in the air & barely slapping the water & he just sunk like a rock. I carried him out & he never goes in over his head now, he wades around the edge but no more swimming lessons for the Bubbs.

I'm anxious to see if Joey will be sinker or a swimmer! We are just finishing up having a pool put in and we would love it if he would swim with us. We bought him a little puppy wading pool at Petsmart so when he comes home to us we can break him in gently. Here's hoping it works!

My inlaws live on a lake in Fredericksburg, VA so we go down there almost every weekend with our two boxers. Riley, the oldest, 1 1/2 loves the water but up unitl last weekend would not go past where she could not stand. My wife was out in the cove swimming, and Riley was on the shore standing in the water bitting the bubbles and leaves in the water, then all of a sudden Riley pawed at the water a couple of time and took off swimming towards my wife... We were dumb founded. We have put her in the water before to make sure she could swim, but she never swam on her own. It was great we were so happy. So we put her life vest on her, and she fetched a couple sticks we throw out so she could swim for them. The next thing is to get our baby Cooper to swim, he is only 4 months though, and also to teach Riley to jump off the dock.

Bella and Max both swim pretty well. It took both of them a little while to get used to the whole swimming thing. They both do not look very pretty when swimming and are not very fast but can have a good time in streams and rivers we take them to. We do not push them in we get in and if they want to follow they can.

I bet you are right close to where I am at!

Baxter has proved that he can swim. His first time in the water I think he did mighty fine and we are looking foward to the next time ;) Lexi is a natural, we found out she liked water when Jason and I were walking her downtown in D.C. She was on a flexi lead and all of a sudden took off and jumped into the wading pool. We were shocked but she had a blast :)

Krose hates to swim!!!
He doesn't even try. If me and Baris are both in the sea, he barks and barks and barks but never gets himself in the water:rolleyes: I don't push him into the event. ýf he doesn't feel like it, that's ok;)

:D Hey guys, this is an awesome thread! Rocky LOVES the water so I took him to a beach here in Miami that is specially for dogs. He loved it, the beach itself is great, he and Princess were socializing just fine witht he other pups until my boyfriend decided to go in. omg! lol, Princess launched in and swan all the way to him and well enough, Rocky was right behind! I read about boxers not being swimmers so I jumped in behind me staying close to him (didn't want to discourage him either) and he did great. No sinking, which was great, lol. After that he stayed with us at the shore running after the waves like a little nutcase
