Super lazy boxers?

The running thread made me want to ask this question. Does anyone else have a lazy boxer? I keep hearing about high energy. Mine is currently sleeping in his crate, where he has been for the past 18 hours (with several short walks that I had to drag him on in between.)

I posted a thread a long time ago, when he was a puppy (he is now over 2) about how he seemed to be so lazy. I was assured he was just growing and would soon be a bundle of energy. It never happened. Sure he likes to go to the park and run around with the other dogs, and act like a nut. Then, he comes home and sleeps for the next two days straight. He is perfectly happy to not go for a walk longer than down the block for a week at a time.

All the dogs I've ever seen see their owner pick up the leash and run to the door. Not Simon. He just lays there and looks at me with a face that says, "No, you go ahead. I'm good right here." Sometimes he tries to get away from me so he doesn't have to go.

And he is perfectly healthy. Never had a single medical problem.

Anyone else?

oh yeah!

We should have named Konah the Sloth! He's 7 months and he'll play with his toys and have little bursts of energy if he encounters something new but overall he'd rather sleep and cuddle. We went to the opening of our trainer's new facility and there were two other beautiful boxer babies there all about the same age. They were really hyper, pulling the leads and beaning like mad and were being shown the gentle leader (wow! they started walking quietly etc), and then there was Konah. With all the excitement and dogs around, flopped out on his side, passed out snoring away. One of the other boxer owners called over,"How do we get one of those?" as his pretty girl was straining on the lead to play with another dog.

Just had to laugh. At our first agility class (just the headstart where they are introduced to the equipment but it's not strenuous) we were doing intros and of course Konah was stretched out snoring while the other dogs were all excited. I said, "Hi, I'm Erin, this is Mike and this is Konah, the laziest boxer you will meet." Our trainer says we need to get overexcited during classes etc so that Konah will feed of our energy. We tried but he doesn't usually get excited for more than about 15 minutes!

Glad to know we're not the only ones!! I was worried that we were!

Harley is generally pretty lazy. Usually he wants to go for walks, but occasionally I have to pull him off of the couch. He also likes to play with his toys, but if he gets tired or runs into something and gets hurt it's all over. He does get excited about other dogs, but after he's been around them for about 15 minutes and gets a little tired he gets better. Harley lays out on his side at the pet store, the vet office, and he did it during our private obedience lessons. The instructor told me he was the most laid back boxer he's ever seen and that he lacks drive. I'm not complaining though. I tell everyone that I got my dog for $56 at the pound!!!!

Sir Lancelot was a pretty hyper puppy, but since his second knee surgery when he was around 4 y.o., he is being very lay back.We always have hard time to take him out at night.
He just don't want to go out, but I think that more than 8 hours without going to pee is too much, so we "force" him to go out at night, before we go to bed.

I am reading these posts and wondering what I did to deserve a boxer gone wild! Cami plays hard and sleeps hard. Friends of our have a male boxer and always said that there was something wrong with our girl labeling her ADHD....(in a funny way). Now low and behold they have a female and she is the spitting image of Cami (energy level wise). I just sit back and smile when I hear all of the stories they have to tell regarding their ADHD girl!

Capone is very lazy boxer he does not like to play and if he does he is sleeping for days. My new girl that the vet thinks is 7 to 9 yr old is very active see love to play all day long. Capone is 6 yr old and has been very tried sence Ally has come along. She has to run to the door everytime she thinks she hears a noise and Capone has to follow and boy is he tired out!!

She has 10 x times more energy than he does it is hard to belive the she could be 8 yrs old.

Lazy

Lizzie is pretty active most of the time. Not as much inside now, even though she has her moments. She really jumps around and is active when we first come in even if we have only been out for a few minutes or when we have company. She does love to go outside and play with the neighbors dog.

Willis is exactly the same way. I'd say he is about 75% ADHD too, and 25% lazy butt. Whatever he does, he does it ALL the way.... if it's time to sleep, you have to push him off the couch to get him going... but when it's time to play he goes from 0 to 750 in about 3 seconds and plays until he is exhausted. I think he has the potential to be a real lazy but in his old age though... he loves his beauty sleep!
