My little girl is at the vet's office right now being monitored for a rock that is in her intestine. I am just sick about it, and I am waiting anxiously for an update on her progress. Hindsight is trully 20/20 because I now realize that she has probably been doing this for a while, but this is the first one she hasn't thrown up or passed on her own. We have a covered dog run that we put the dogs in when we have to leave the house. Otherwise they are inside with us, except to potty. On a few occassions, she has not wanted to eat her food and has paced around the house. In these cases she has wanted to go outside, where she has eaten grass and threw up. I just chalked this up to her having an upset belly, and not thought much of it. Well this is the same behavior she was exhibiting last night, and when it continued on for a few hours, I became really concerned and took her to the vet. They did an X-ray, and she has a rock in her intestine. They are going to monitor her, and they have her on an IV in hopes that they can "slick" up her intestine and she will pass it on her own. However if it becomes obstructed it is time for surgery. I am just so scared. One on hand, I am afraid for how painful it will be for her to pass it, but I am even more concerned about surgery.
So my question, after my long drawn out post.. Has anyone had experience with this type of surgery? What are the long term issues associated with it? Is she going to have a potential for intestinal issues? The rocks are being taken out of the yard today, and we are researching a suitable replacement. I am just concerned about how this will effect her long term.
Thanks for bearing with my long post, and for any input/advice you may have.
