I know a lot of you have purchased leather furniture and I was wondering if I could pick your brain. My husband and I want to buy a sectional and to say that this purchase intimidates me is such an understatement. We have two small children, a cat and our boxer. I need something tough and resilent. What am I looking for? Any recommended places to buy/brands? My parents bought some furniture at Laz-boy. It was about $6000 I think, is that what I should expect to pay for quality? I am lost, all help will be appreciated.

That amount seems pricey, you also know dogs love chewing on leather & aren't picky whether its shoes or couches.I've lost 2 couches in 5yrs & they weren't leather. I would consider all when making a purchase of 6grand just for that.It would make you sick to come home & find it in shreds!Just my 2 cents,Hanley

I have leather furniture from BarcaLounger. It is very durable--you can't even tell a dog has been near it

I went to the furniture store today actually just to look at leather sofas/sectionals. I found a leather sectional (lazyboy brand) on sale for around $1,100. DIdnt think that was too bad- plus this particular store is going out of business next month so they're taking even more off!! Excited me very much--just wish I could give it a test run with Mr. Titan--ha ha.

I have a 3 piece leather set, couch,loveseat and a reclining swivel rocking type chair. Its about 4 years old. I would never get a leather set again. The piping or cording tends to split and crack in the areas that get a lot of use. Usually right in the front of the cushions. I had one cushion replaced when it was within its warranty only to have it happen again and in other places. The dogs are not allowed on the leather although I know they sneak up there as I find the clues, hair, hair and more hair. Slobber is not a problem. The plus to leather it wipes off with baby wipes no trouble. The set other then the piping looks great there are no scratches or tares anywhere.. In saying that my next set will be a hide anything and everything color, heavy duty fabric that I can simply vacuum and spray with fabreeze.

I love my leather couches & chair. We make sure we keep it conditioned-once a month I try to put the conditioner on it. I will never have any other kind of furniture. I let my dogs & kids on it with no problem. My first leather couch is over 10 years old and is still in great condition. It is now in my basement for the theater room. My hubby got me new leather furniture when we moved into our new house 5 months ago. The thing I love about leather is if something spills, or whatever it wipes right off. Also, I will have to look and see what kind of couch my new one is, but it has a full lifetime warranty.

I have 4 cats and the 2 pups, not to mention 3 kids and then us. There is NO way I would ever buy leather furniture. The first thing that always pops up in my mind when I think of leather furniture is.. during the summer when I'm wearing shorts and I'm sitting there for a long time (even with the ac on).. sweating. Yuck! Not to mention the dogs and their claws and we won't even go there with the cats!

I've considered buying leather furniture too and looking at past threads on it, it seemed the majority of the people who had it, liked it. If you do decide to buy it, maybe getting their extra warranty might help. I know alot of furniture stores have a warranty where if damage is done to your furniture, no matter how it happened, they will fix it. Personally, I never buy the extra warranty, however, I see how it could help calm the paranoia that may arise when you see claws putting pressure on the material

We bought a leather sectional about three years ago and it still looks great. We bought it at a small local furniture chain, but I believe it's a common mid-price range brand. I never buy additional warranties, but I bought the five year warranty that covers anything that might go wrong including scratches, tears, stains and even removing urine. The funny thing is, when we picked up our new boxer from boxer rescue last week, the rescue person had the exact same leather sectional! For us, leather was well worth the extra price. It's the only sofa covering we'll use from now on.
