(one about a boxer eating a baby's ear completely off its head!) ...

LOL! That is too funny the most Angel has done is attempt to lick the ear off Elle's head. So far the ear is still attached ;)

I have heard some pretty outlandish things about boxers & children. I am sure everyone in your family will be fine with the new arrival in July...congratulations by the way. I can't wait to see the pics of the baby - make sure you post after your feeling better....good luck!

Girlfriend....all boxer owners can laugh at your grandparents ridiculous stories!! People who own a boxer know that those stories are so far from the truth. From the day we brought our daughter home from the hospital, Duke (our boxer we just lost to cancer) was VERY protective of her but that was all. I recommend boxers to any family with kids. They are just the greatest dogs.

Kelli it should all be fine. A friend of mine has two boxers and ended up pregnant about two years ago. The boxers did extremely well and love the baby. They are protective of him. Don't let people scare you.

Let me tell you something. We have a 7 mos old daughter and just adopted a 1 yr old boxer a few weeks ago. He is absolutely AMAZING with her. And like you, I certainly put my daughter's well being first. And that is exactly why we got a boxer. Anyone who would tell you to be rid of your boxer for the sake of your baby is obviously not doggie educated. I have done extenive research on just about every breed known to man, and have always come back to one breed, the boxer. And every boxer owner who has children will tell you the same thing. Yes, they look intimidating, which is why I am sure people on walks may be saying these things, but i can assure you that they are THE greatest with children. I grew up with golden retrievers, and as wonderful as they are, I would still rather have a boxer with my baby any day.

Our Duke just can't get enough of our baby. He is so gentle with her, gives her soft kisses all the time, and follows her around everywhere. In fact, when she starts to cry, ever, he has to go right to her to make sure everything is o.k. And when she is crying while I am changing her diaper, Duke paces around until I get her off the changing table so he can see that she is o.k. When we are on walks, he stays RIGHT next to her stroller, and checks in every few minutes by sticking his head inside and giving her a kiss.

He lets her do whatever she wants to him. She crawls all over him, plays with his ears, slides all over him, grabs his mouth, paws, legs; whatever she can get. Not only does he not mind, but he doesn't even move to get away. He'll just lift his head up and kiss her while she has her arms around his neck, or whatever it is of his she's playing with. In fact, and this is actually gross, but the other day I was dusting and only had my eyes off of them for one second. But during that second, my daughter had mischief on her mind. I glanced over to see my daughter squeezing his testacles. I ran over immediately to get her away and loosen her kung-foo grip on them. I couldn't believe that Duke didn't even budge. He just looked at me like he couldn't understand why I was freaking out. Once I freed his parts from her hand, he just leaned over and kissed my girl and laid back down. (I obviously cleaned her hands right away, eeww).

I have truly never met any other type of dog that is more tolerant and loving with children. You will see for yourself.

Ok I have been quite lately but I just have to let everyone know the Boxer and baby stories…ok here is a good one… Picture this…Mother…Burping 4 month old baby.

Ok I was just finishing my bottle when I get this very full felling, so being limited in vocabulary I let out my normal whine, well it more like a cry but you get the jest. So my mom takes the food away and gives me a big hug and starts that whole patting my back thing. Well I guess Caesar did not like the fact that my mom was striking me. (Remember I asked for it, the tummy was full). Caesar stood up and blocked my moms patting with his head. I have this mushy face alongside mine looking at mom like with this “What do you think you are doing to my little buddy” look on his face.

I am not kidding Caesar would not let my mother burp me as a baby. Whenever I was being fed he was outside. He would never growl or bite he would just not let my mom burp me. He would get in the way.

I love it... that is adorable.
As a mommy of a 10 week old skin baby, and a 1 1/2 yr old fur baby,
I can appreciate this story. If my newborn skin baby starts to cry I get
a look from Nestle like "what is taking you so long"

If cole starts to cry when I am holding him, Nestle is wiggling her way
right in between us to make sure I am not hurting him and begins to cover him in boxer kisses to make it all better.

Obviously I have not been pregnant LOL but I'm the proud father of Sergio 5 y/o and Victoria 6 m/o. Orion was introduced to our family when Sergio was 3 y/o and since then they are best friends. Sergio is afraid of the dark so whenever he has to go in a dark room, before he turns the lights on he calls for Orion to walk with him. When my wife gave birth to Victoria the first thing we did at home after we put her in our bed was get Orion to take a good look and sniff at her. Now every time shes calls for us (cries, yells, mumbles) Orion will get from wherever he is at and join us to the parental care session.
My grandmother 92 years old always tells us to never let Orion near her because, and I quote her "Dogs are animals and you never know". I just play along and say 'yeah grandma, you are right". But I know Orion will NEVER hurt her or Sergio.
You just have to use your common sense and never listen to people who never had a Boxer as part of their family.

Thanks
Andres (Orion's dad)

I had a wonderful experience

We had a female boxer when my son was born. We let the two meet before we brought the baby in the house. She would sniff around the crib, then curl up under it. When the baby was on he floor, Fergie (the boxer) would go out of her way to walk around it and lay beside it, never on it.

I think by allowing the baby and the dog to meet outside helps. The dog is there first, and the baby is just like any other stranger. Good luck!

Hows this for a comeback....tell them that their children are twice as likely to develop all kinds of alergies than children who grow up with dogs. Its true!
