I have a 9 mo old baby and two doggies (3 & 5) and they all get along great! Most days the dogs just ignore her but for a sniff and a kiss every now and then! Boxers are great with children! And it was like Angel knew to be careful around Elle since she was little!

Congrats on the baby! The doctor's were kind to me and I was induced (and only three days overdue)! Best of luck! And I am sure it will all work out fine! :)

my best girlfriend who is a dog lover has said to me that i should start leaving brandy outside so it's not such a shock when our baby comes (currently tryinig) and she is then thrown outside :( well she is shocked when i say it's not happening that way - she did it with her dogs but it was very different their male - patch is a blue cattle dog and is very aggressive he is on meds for this - prosac??sp he had his throat riped out when he was a puppy by a pitbull and has been aggressive since then they think it was partly because of the attack and the operation anyway she can't trust patch around their child but brandy loves kids and i think now she realised this after she saw brandy with another friend child who has servere disabilities and brandy watched over him, was very gentle and loving with him and he giggled (first time i can remember him gigglin in about 6yrs) and was very calm when near him like she sensed his problems - it just shows you how wonderful they are - we know she will be fine well we are finally blessed with our long awaited child and i am sure furbaby will be as well.

its amazing how many people automatically say that the dog will have to go or be outside all the time once a child arrives as this friend isn't the only person to tell me the same thing- with the right supervision and training it doesn't have to be especially with our wonderful boxer babies.

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and i love the fact that the babies expected del. is the same birthdate as your furbaby ???? you will have no probs thats a good enough sign for me

We have had boxers while I was pregnant and when the babies were all born. They are now 24, 21,21. None of our boxers ever bothered the children. The twins were early and very tiny when we brought them home..Sugar never ever harmed or even growled at the children. She stayed inside and even slept with us, while I had a bassinette(?) on either side of the bed. Great dogs with children. I think some people are ignorant as to boxers. Just because they are big, people assume they are bad. Like I said ignorant people. They need to keep their mouths closed when they have not idea of what they are talking about. Duchess loved the children and never harmed them. She slept with them. Samson and Delilah are our boxers now. We have and empty nest, so there is no one around to harm.

I wouldn't worry about it. You are definately doing all the right steps. My grandmother raised boxers she was also a day care provider and never had any issues witht he dogs not getting along with the children or vice versa. Good luck!! Don't let those Prego blues get to you!!!

As a new mommy of a skin baby (7 weeks old) and a beautiful boxer girl (15 months old) I have to tell you that seeing Nestle with our new son Cole has been nothing but amazing. Boxers and Newborns/Children seem to be a perfect match. Nestle is just crazy about Cole. She is the first one there
to check on him when he cries and constantly checks in on him. She is so gentle and you can see it in her eyes. She puts up with the crying and is a part of amost every feeding.

The only problem is that my skin baby is always wet from boxer kisses. haha!!!!

Speaking from Recent experience, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AND EVERYTING TO BE EXCITED ABOUT!!!

good luck!!! I wish you and easy and quick delivery!!!!!

Check out my gallery. This is not my child, but my grandchild. Tyson and Five have both loved her since she was a baby. Five treats her like one of her own. And now that Sarah is almost two, some of her first words were Tyson and Mommy Dog. You have nothing to worry about and just ignore those people that do not know what they are talking about.

Boxers & Kids go hand in hand!!!!

Okay, I'm not sure what those people are thinkin????? Boxers love children, my dogs light up when they see kids!!!!

I had two children (ages 8 and 4) when I bought my first boxer and I was 4 months pregnant at the time I got him. Now I have 3 kids and just adopted a second boxer. I have had no problems with my boxers and the baby or my other children.

I do suggest not letting the dog unnattended with the baby, and I don't let my dogs on my bed when the baby is there (for fear that that might pounce him without even knowing). But aside from that Boxers and kids go hand in hand!

Use common sense as the baby gets older - for instance I don't put the baby on the floor when the dogs are in the room. I have confidence that they won't intentionally hurt the baby, but when they start playing they may inadvertantly do something. An accident happening is my only fear with dogs and kids, which is why you have to be a responsible parent to both the dogs and the kid (As i am sure you are with your dog and will be with your baby).

I am sorry but some people are rediculous - you'd be amazed at how many people really do get rid of their dogs simply becasue they are having a baby!! if you ask me, the type of person who would take on the responsibility of a dog and then heartlessly turn it over to a shelter with no justification other than they are having a baby, probably shouldn't be having a baby anyway!!! I have spent way too much time reading these sad stories about rescue dogs and seeing this so often ills me!!!!

Good Luck with your dog and your new baby, i am sure you will all be a very happy family, yes all including the dog :)

There are tons of theads on this topic if you do a search, I am expecting a baby later this year and I have read them all and they're all very reassuring.
One of the reasons my husband and I chose a boxer was because of thier wonderful ways with kids and all the interactions he has had with our friends newborns, toddlers and older children have been wonderful. It would be helpful to teach him a command for when the baby has had enough kisses though!! And I wouldn't leave the baby playing on the floor because the dog may accidently step on him, but any dog may do this or any person or child either. Best of luck with your new baby!!!!

Dont Worry about Silly People

I have an 11month old little girl, when she was 9 mos. we decided to add a Boxer to the family, enter Harley 9wks old when we got him, now 17wks old. No problem at all!! He is a pup and she is a human pup... its great!!! Of course your dog will need to adjust, but there is nothing sweeter than a baby growing up with its dog.

I decided to get a boxer, I chose Harley, but he's Trista's dog 100%. She even sneaks food to him already!! She'll be sitting in her high-chair and hold her hand over the edge with a piece of food in it... Harley of course is right there (he sits under her high-chair when she eats) and he takes it sweetly from her little hand... she looks up at Mommy and Daddy and says "uh-ohhh". With that "huh? I didnt give him anything, I must have dropped that piece of banana, honest I didnt feed him, oopps.. tee hee" look on her face, its priceless!!!

Of course if I am playing on the floor with Trista, Harley is interested and to teach them, Baby and Boxer, I would say "Gentle to Baby" to Harley and "Nice to puppy" for Trista as babies and small children need to learn to pet and not grab and yank at the dogs, but Harley is tolorent for a young dog and he'll learn, just like he's learned to only give kisses to Trista when she pulls at him, instead of biting. Always have supervised play with baby and dog though, accidents can happen. Mostly when Boxer gets a little too excited for tiny baby to handle, lol.

I wouldnt have it any other way than for my child to grow with my dog and vice versa!!

Dont worry about Silly people... I'm sure by now youve heard all the "expert" advise you can stand by now! I know I was sick of it when I was ready to have Trista.
Everyone is a doctor when your prego, or so they think! smashicon
