I check her ears regularly, and nothing gross is coming out of them (except for the usual brown waxy goop) but noticed that her ears are smelling stronger than usual lately. Any advice on ear cleaning products or homeopathic solutions? Maybe because it's summer time and she's smelling a little more doggier than usual? Thanks in advance!

I get the vet to give Roge,s ears a good cleaning out when hes getting his shots, she gets right in there and gets a lot of gunk out ,( im afraid to go that far in ) she said a lot of it is caused by heat, however his ears dont smell , the smell may have something to do with a build up of yeast.

She's scratching around that area (but then again she scratches herself everywhere). I got some wipes today and that helped. Going to wait until her vet appointment for a thorough check up. Thank you all!

There really shouldn't be any "usual brown waxy goop" in your dog's ear. Dogs are pretty good at shaking their heads and ridding the ears of anything like that. If your dog routinely has goop in the ear then they might be living with a constant low-level yeast infection. I have three dogs and two of them have never really needed an ear cleaning. I do clean them when they get a bath anyway, but they never have any real wax or buildup. My third dog has allergies and gets yeast infections in the ear quite regularly if I am not on top of the ear cleanings. She has "brown waxy goop" and it is the debris from the yeast infection.

Aha! This is interesting...I wonder if her overall scratching is resulting in her having some sort of yeast infection in her ear...good to know. Most definitely taking her to the vet. Thank you all for your advice!!

Yeah I clean and clean and clean Starz' ears and they still stink.
Her left ear is always spotless, but her right ear is always full of wax. The vet actually even remarked how clean they were last time I we were there.

Seriously, I clean them constantly. I just flip her on her side and sit on her (well kind of kneel over/straddle) and she just lays there while I clean them. I use qtips with this cleaning stuff I got from the vet office.

Anyway, even when they're sparkling clean they still stink! lol Her tears stink too; we call her the cheese face cause, well, she smells like cheese.

Sounds like a yeast issue. What food do you feed? Sugars and corn is a huge culprit of yeast issues, and corn specific to allergies. I bet a switch to a quality grain free kibble would help eliminate this issue.

I remember the vet told me that their other vet could smell if a dog had yeast infection and that he had an excellent nose. But he couldn't smell it because he has allergies pretty bad. My girl did have gook in her ear but it was further down in her ear canal so I couldn't see it but noticed that Lacy scratched it alot. By that scratching & her shaking her ears alot I knew something was wrong.
