As well, do not get paniced if it is Epilepsy, many canines, like humans, live long lives with Seizure control meds. In humans it is very common to have 2 strokes on top of each other. There is no reason I can see that this would be different in any mammal. So to get a clearer picture that has to be ruled out first.

Although there is the same chance that this is epilepsy there's no point treating it as such until you know it's not a stroke for sure as if it's wrong and it's not epilepsy the cause of the stroke will go untreated.

I'd be asking for a CT scan of the dogs head for 2 reasons - 1) it will show if there has beena bleed and 2) it may show damage that is consistent with epilepsy

Thank all of you for taking the time....

Susan here. I just got home today. What an awful road trip for work, when the boy is home sick & you can't do a blessed thing! That's why I asked my hubby to post a note & see what you people would come up with...

Thank you so much for all your replies. We are reading the links & trying to follow up on suggestions. Even Chiropractic.... Spot has had a tender place on his spine since we got him, so you never know.

But, a new bit has been thrown into the works. :(

Last night he was throwing up all night. (Hubby got about 2 hours sleep & then did a lot of laundry today before I got home!) He (the dog) coughs if he gets the least bit excited, & tries to throw up.... usually just bile, as we haven't been feeding him much.

I am going to look up more about Kennel Cough, perhaps (even though he's had the anti-v) he's picked that up somewhere.... It seems that Mosely gave a little cough or two tonight as well, but perhaps he was just "faking it" for our sakes.... he gets a wee little bit jealous at times!

Spot is still drinking normally & interested in everything, including food.... So, we are still at a loss, & will wait for Monday to see what transpires this weekend.

Thank you all again for your good wishes, & words of advice. They are all very welcome. If there are any more out there, keep them coming!

Well, thanks again to all of you for your warm wishes... perhaps they are helping!

We have come to the conclusion that Spot has contracted a mild (so far, but it sure is icky to watch!) form of KC. Don't know from whom, yet..... But the word is getting out in this little town.....

We have been helping him keep his dinner down (he's still soooo hungry!!!!) by giving him a bit of motion sickness tablet with his dinner. It also helps to keep him calm, & therefore less likely to run/get excited & so start hacking/barfing again.....

For the hacking, we are treating him with Dextromethorphan. Seems to help a lot. And works very quickly.... he just doesn't like the taste! (The plain, no additives stuff, just with sucrose. Berry flavour would probably go down better!)
He is also getting yummy doses of honey to soothe his (likely) raw throat....

Still don't know what all the trembling was about, and so far, no episodes since the beginning of the week. Perhaps it has to do with the Kennel Cough, but I would wonder about that......

Anyway, thanks again. Perhaps I can get some photos developed now & post some new pics! The dogs look wonderfully filthy right now because we are busy landscaping, & all the warm topsoil is just too much of a temptation for the two white dogs & their yellow lab friend to resist! (Esp. when the sprinklers come out! Oooohhh mud baths!!!)

Poor Baby! Sounds just like epilepsy to me! However, Elvis did have a similar problem. He started with the shaking in his sleep and then when he would get excited. Obvious labored breathing although, his potty breaks were somewhat altered. After several blood tests that ruled out epilepsoy etc, he was diagnosed with LYMPHOMA! This disease will NOT show up on a blood test. Sounds more like epilepsy to me.. but the symptoms were incredibly similar. I would ask the vet to do a thyroid profile and check lymphnodes etc!

Coughing now??? I would also recommend a test for heartworms and also other heart conditions. I have seen a couple of dogs they *thought* it was an epilepsy problem, but it turned out to be cardiomyophy.
