Hi all,
My boy Kruz is nearly 11 and just the past couple of months seems to have aged 5 years. We've been to the vet so much we don't even need an appointment anymore. Here's the lowdown:
Has always been feed the 'good' dogfood and all of a sudden started to scratch his face/body like crazy and seemed to be trying to eat his paws. Would not stop! Vet recommended the BARF diet and this stopped- he was allergic to the kibble.
About a month or so later his energy levels dropped. He was very lathargic, didn't even bark at the mailman or anyone. Stopped greeting me at the door. Found a couple lumps.
Vet biopsied them (results wed-two more days of waiting)but said the preliminary results seemed like it was a skin allergy. Gave Kruz one shot of penicilline ? the day the biopsy was done and he seemed better. Gave him another when we went in for the preliminary results and no change. Now he's on steroids Deltasone.
Since than, these last three days have been a yoyo. He wasn't eating at all- not even steak or eggs but then was eating if you spread peanut butter on and i know it's not the best for them but he hadn't eaten in two days. Now not even pb is doing anything. I'm really worried- he will not eat anything. is having a difficult time breathing, is shaking and his inner ears are yellow. he still drinks water- is peeing (very yellow) and pooping. I'd like to wait till he sees his regular vet tomorrow because he's familiar with Kruz and the vet hospital where i live is a little sketchy (heard some very unhappy customers and wasn't happy when i had to take my other dog there once.) Do you have any idea what this is? What about any ideas to comfort him? He was alright last night nearly back to his old self but it doesn't seem to last. PLEASE HELP ME. He's my man.
thanks so much
jenn

Wow, I'm so sorry that you and Kruz are going through this! I would get him to the vet ASAP!

Once, my first dog, Meggie, had yellow inner ears/yellow replaced the whites in her eyes/everything on her body was turning yellow, and come to find out, she was going through liver failure (I'm pretty sure that's what it was, I was no older than I'd say 8 years old).

I hope everything turns out okay. Keep us posted and give Kruz lots of love! :)

We'll be thinking of Kruz, and hoping that things turn out ok. I wish I could offer more than that. I know how hard it is to feel helpless, waiting for answers. Hang in there as best you can.

So sorry to hear about Kruz. I wish there were words to ease your sadness and grief, but I know there aren't. Try to remember the healthy happy Kruz, and just know that he is waiting for you at the bridge where he is healthy, young and energetic again.
