I just saw this thread tonight and wanted to tell you that I'm so sorry that Asia isn't feeling well. Just please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hey guys,

Sorry this update is a little late, we've had a busy day!

Mark had a golf tournament at 8am (woke up at 4.30), then he got done around 12.40. After that, we ate. We were all sunburned so we went home, showered and took an hour nap, then I had to work from 4-8.

I was walking in from work and saw Josie (Asia's best Boxer friend who lives at our apartment complex), and played with her a bit. It was sad! She kept walking up to our door and scratching like she wanted to go inside. Mark's brother Eric was in there and he thought it was one of us so he opened the door and Josie darted in! Her and Asia started to play rough (as usual) and I freaked. We got them separated but Asia cried the entire time ... it was so sad! Mark and I opened the window and Josie kept walking up to the door - Steve (her owner) eventually had to walk up to our door to get her because she wouldn't leave! :( It was sweet, but it was sooo sad!!

For some reason, the Dr. didn't call us today ... I was giving it until a certain time before I called her but I fell asleep, then when I woke up, the office was closed already (or so I think)! I feel horrible that I didn't call today ... but she could have been busy which is why she may not have called me - I am going to do that FIRST THING tomorrow!

I have to go up there early in the AM tomorrow to give back Asia's files, so I will talk to her in person there. Maybe even make an appointment on the spot so if we have any problems, I can just hand the phone to the Doc!

Thank you all for your concerns...tomorrow I should have more news about our appointment and all that fun stuff  so I will update ya'll as soon as I get home!

Doja's Mommy - We have been giving Asia kongs and other 'eatable' treats/toys, but I guess it just isn't the same as roughhousing with Dad!! :(

SweetBoxer - Thank you for the info on that, I am going to have to look in to it. My Mom was going to pay half of it, or more, but she just called to let me know she wasn't going to be able to do it.

We are more stressed out than ever and my Mom calls me to tell me that and to tell me how much they are enjoying being in Maryland (they're on a road trip on the East coast right now) .... I am so jealous!

Sooo, the Dr. is supposed to call me back very soon. I will update then ... ;)

I know what you mean....

I wish I would have known about that carecredit thing, I just got a new credit card and charged about 1K on it for Doja's issues, the remaining 1k came out of pocket. Which is still pretty rough coming back from. American express is not happy with me right now. But who cares, My Doja's still with me :) You will find a way to pay for it I'm sure.

Haley, Mark and Asia,

I just caught the thread and wanted to let you know that you all will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I hope that these doctor's can give you some answers soon. The not knowing is so hard.

So, Banfield is now referring us to 'Animal Imaging' in Irving (close enough to us), Yay! I love the people at the Banfield in Frisco - the girl I talked to (the same nurse from the other day, and that we've seen for over a year now) talked to me like I was a friend, asking how Asia was, telling me that if there was absolutely anything else she could do, just call her, etc... She made me feel extremely comfortable with the situation! :)

So, I called Animal Imaging and I'm going to try to set up an appointment for Thursday, if not, for this upcoming Tuesday (not today) - supposedly the Dr we need to see is only there Tuesdays & Thursdays, which works for me because I don't work those days!

And to top off all this *better* news (now that we're finally getting somewhere), it will be $275 - which of course Mark and I have the money for!

Sooo, now that we are finally getting somewhere, I am feeling much better! The Dr. from Banfield took home Asia's EKG results last night and will call me on Thursday with EVERYTHiNG she could find in them!

She wasn't there today (misunderstanding on the phone earlier and got a call from the nurse back, which was fine because she knows our whole situation)!

So, the referral (just learned how to spell that word,, I hope that is right) is going to go out either later today or Thursday. I am hoping to make the appointment today whether or not the referral is faxed today!

*Keeping our fingers crossed that we continue to receive better news* :)

I will update when I make the appointment, which will hopefully be today!! ;)

Awesome, heyyyy hey heyyyy, $275 is definately do-able.... Good for you! That must be a relief. Can't wait to hear more. Is the test that you are taking her for, the holter moniter, or something else?

Oh my goodness

Okay, so i have been a bad boxerworld member for some time now, and just got on today from a bit of a lapse, and i am sitting at work with tears in my eyes worried about Asia!!! I have sat here for the last hour reading EVERYTHING! My heart totally goes out to you and Mark, I can't imagine what you are going through, my boxer puppy now and the boxers i have grown up with have always been people in my life, and I would be just as concerned and upset as you both are. I am going to start checking this one everyday until I hear Asia is okay! Cameron (our 6 month baby) sends your Asia lots of love and Boxer wiggles!
Good luck, and I have to go and find some kleenex!

You sound so much better. So happy to hear that things are moving along. Been thinking about Asia a lot lately. I think this entire community has taken a personal interest in Asia. I know we have.

Paws crossed for good news!!! Big sloppy wiggly messy kisses to Asia. Nestle and Porter send you and Mark some extra wiggles and smooches too!!

I've just been reading all the threads about Asia and really hope she's doing better.

I am going through something very similar with my brindle boy, Clyde. Let me give you a bit of background. Clyde is 7 years old now and has had so many health problems since he's been a puppy. He has hip dysplasia, arthritis (diagnosed when he was about 18 months old). He struggles to sit down and always lies on the same side which has resulted in a pressure sore on his elbow which gets infected now and again. 18 months ago he developed a hernia which the vet said could be left as it wasn't bothering him. One day just before Christmas in 2003 the hernia seemed really large, and he couldn't urinate. I rushed him to the vet who said that the hernia was blocking his "passage" and was very serious. He was sent to a specialist two days before Christmas to have the hernia fixed and to be castrated because I was told this would help reduce the prostate. He was in so much pain following the operation that I thought my heart would break. They had used some muscle tissue in his leg to heal the hernia and castrated him at the same time and as he struggles to sit/lie down due to his hips, he just paced around crying and whimpering. He was so tired he would almost fall over but he would not lie down and rest. I was on the phone to the vet constantly all over Christmas, they gave him strong pain killers but this just made him struggle to stay awake even more. Eventually after about two weeks he began to get back to his normal self.

Things last year were ok, he has regular injections to help with his hips and the winter is always a bad time for him due to the cold weather. During a check up at the vet earlier this year I was told that Clyde had a lot of muscle wastage in his back legs and that due to all his problems the vet didn't think he would make "old bones". Not the sort of thing I wanted to hear!

Then in February he had a seizure when a friend was looking after him. It lasted about 2 minutes and he was a little confused straight afterwards but had fully recovered by the time I got home an hour later. I took him back to the vet who took some blood and the result showed he had a deficiency in his thyroid. He also developed some bald spots along his flank around the same time. He has been on medication since and has not had any more seizures until last Monday.

I always take Clyde out at 6 am when it's cooler as he does not like the heat. We had only been out about 10 minutes and he had just found a football in a bush. He was pushing it around when all of a sudden his back legs went wobbly and he collapsed on his side. I could not see if his gums were white as he had kind of gone face first into the bush. His heart was beating but I wasn't sure he was breathing. Then after about 15 seconds he suddenly sat up panting really hard. I took him home straight away and he seemed absolutely fine. I took him to the vet and she listened to his heart and thought that it had some kind of arrythmia, where it keeps beating too slow and that might be why he collapsed. She thought it was something totally unconnected to the thyroid problem.

She asked if I wanted him referred to a cardiologist. We have decided that I will monitor him for a month and then take him back for a blood test to check his thyroid level and at that time if he has displayed any other symptoms I can decide then if I want a referral to the specialist. I am so loathe to put him through anything else, he's so nervous of vets and has been through so much I am not sure what to do. I asked if I should restrict his exercise but she said it was all down to quality of life, not to stop his exercise (he goes out for a walk three times a day) but obviously don't run him around - easier said than done! Since then he has been fine, although I am a nervous wreck. I live on my own with him, he's like my baby and I cannot bear the thought of anything happening to him. I know he is getting old and time is probably running out for him but I just want him to be happy and well. He's been my best friend and my constant companion for the last 7 years.

Anyway sorry for this rambling, long thread. I haven't posted anything other than the introduction before now so I hope I've done it right, I'm not too hot on computers!

Just wanted to wish Asia all the best and to say that Clyde and I are thinking of you all and hoping that Asia gets better soon.
