My poor boxer's eye started doing this a few hours ago....I dont think its cherry eye because the membrane is not bubbling out, but it is very swolen and red...some of the white part of the eye appears to be bleeding as well. I cant tell if this is a big issue or not...I've popped bloodvessels in my own eyes and its no big deal but i cant tell if thats whats going on here. Anyone seen something like this before? I'm kinda in the middle of nowhere and the vet is closed till monday :(. should i be concerned? there is no squinting or anything...just a very very red eye.

Thanks for any help,
Robby

Oh my! That looks awful! I would definately try and see if you can take him somewhere and get him looked at. I actually had a corneal ulcer and it looked kind of like that. Had it gotten infected I could have lost the eye. I'm not saying that is what it is but the eye is a very sensitive organ and any injury should probably be taken seriously.

wow, that looks bad, I'd see if I could get it looked at as soon as possible. Hope its nothing serious. Poor baby. Get better soon.

Ouch - that does not look good. I don't think I would or could wait until Monday to have it looked at. Is there an emergency clinic around, or I know they are probably not the best, but Petsmart usually has a clinic inside them and I believe they are open on Saturdays.

There are certain things like the eyes that you just can't leave to chance. While it may be nothing IF it is something getting treatment sooner rather than later could potentially save the eye or keep any discomfort from getting worse.
That looks pretty serious.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes :).

As I mentioned before, I'm a college student at a Texas Tech...kind of in the middle of nowhere Lubbock, TX. My vet and most all the others are closed until Monday :(.

I did contact my vet in Houston and send her pictures...she thinks its either cherry eye or something has gotten in there that is really irritating the third eyelid. She suggested putting in eye drops and giving her two doses of 25mg benedryl for the time being. She said that as long as she is not squinting and pawing at it, more than likely it is nothing eye threatening. She also told me to keep an eye on it and notify her immediately if I start noticing any kind of a white haze.

So for now I guess we will wait it out one more day to have it checked out. I took Bella to the park today and she ran and played like normal and didn't seem to be in any pain. Hopefully it just looks worse than it really is. Its amazing how if the same thing happened to me, I wouldn't really make a big deal out of it. But since its my boxer I will totally start worrying and get distraught.

I will keep you guys updated on what the vet has to say on Monday. Thanks again for all of the care!

I was glad to hear that you were able to get in touch with the vet...Bella seems to be unbothered with the whole thing...they tend to leave the worrying to us!! Let us know the outcome but for now its good to know that things are somewhat stable
