Do you have any special directions for making the cookies? I guess we'll try milk at first and see how he does Saturdays after class. Do you use 2 percent?

here's the full recipe

2 cup flour
1 cup milk or water
1/2 cup peanut butter and splash of honey
1 tbsp of baking powder

mix all
roll cookie dough and cut with cookie cutter
cook in oven at 375F (15min)
let cool in oven off until hard

i usually make them in the morning and let them all day in the cold oven to dry.

Thanks so much - can't wait to try this! Seems like leaving them in the oven all day is key and I probably never would have thought of that. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks! ;)

Samsonian...

I'm kinda late comin' to this thread, but I would second DCing all the supplements while you're changing foods, esp the fish oil. I have 3 and all of them get sick on fish oil. Diarrhea and vomiting are the usual results of my adding this to their food. It takes them a while to settle down, too. And my Boxer can't eat red meat, esp venison. Gets sick every time.

Some of the foods you mentioned trying are pretty high quality for commercial foods, so you're not trying junk food. Caifornia Natural Lamb & Rice or Chicken and Rice has been good for one family I know.

I remember someone else on the boards here using Wellness Core. It's grain-free but the protein level is around 34% so they used it for their pup.

Good luck with Samson...

Thanks, dalefuller! Yes, we stopped everything yesterday and it about broke my heart. Especially at bedtime when everynight Samson gets a biscuit. He just sat there looking at me, like I had forgotten. And then, of course, I forgot something and had to go past him in his bed again and he just stared at me with those sad eyes like "why? have I been a bad boy?" And he's such a good boy - I just wanted to start crying! I know I'm probably being way overly dramatic, but this just feels like the hardest thing in the world for some reason. I leave him everyday for work and go home at lunch to be with him. He gets special treats both times I leave him - morning and after lunch. I just don't know how I'm going to cut everything out. Luckily, hubby is home today with him, so I didn't have to worry about it. I'm definitely making chrystel's homemade treats tonight, and since they have peanut butter in them, maybe I'll just leave pb-filled treats for him each day. Okay, sorry to ramble on and on! Btw - his gas was the worst last night! I think he was getting it all out for our new system :)

True! I guess I've just spoiled him a bit with all the bully sticks and fish skins. I'm sure he'll get used to it faster than I will :)

I guess I was thinking even the homemade treats might be culprits and I was planning to limit them to Saturday training classes, but that's probably a bit extreme. Do you think the pb in a kong/bone while he's left at home is okay? I don't want to do anything to ruin the test!

Chrystel, I made your biscuits last night and I think they turned out great. Sam sat by me the whole time as if he knew they were for him somehow - maybe the overwhelming smell of pb, since he is used to getting it in bones from time to time. I made them when I got home from work and left them in the oven overnight. Sam and I both tried one after breakfast. He gobbled his up and I ate half of mine :) Thanks again!

Also - hubby used kibble yesterday to treat during a walk and said Sam acted like it was his normal treats! I guess I thought he was smarter than that :) That was a great suggestion

you're welcome! i'm glad he likes the treats!!! Snatch and Oxford would stare at the oven all day when i make those!!! ;)

- by the way.. Snatch gets gas when he has any kind of bully sticks, rawhide, etc.. ;)

whenever your pup will be better, you can make changes to those treats (little less milk, and replacing the PB/honey for a baby food of carrots or sweet potatoes.. or green beans... those baby food are pretty handing for flavoring doggy treats hehe.. i then add a teaspoon molasse for sweetener)

I hope everything in his tummy will calm down pretty soon :)
