I would stop switching foods so often. If he’s doing well with what he’s currently on then leave it for at least a few months. The scratching could definitely be environmental since it’s the start of spring. Also since it’s near his mouth he may have chewed on a plant that bothered him or chased a bug that bit him.

true.. if the gas and poop are improving, i would keep that food :)

[i wanted to say - they get itchy on beef (i put meat) ... ]

if you want to see if it's the wheat, try rye flour (you can get it at walmart)

try to give benadryl to sam, to see if the itchiness around the mouth could be allergy ;)

I'm glad to hear someone else thinks this may be environmental. I know the pollen is starting to build up here in TN and my allergies our driving me crazy, so I can imagine Samson may be suffering from some of the same stuff. I'll stick with the Canidae ALS and try some Benadryl for the itching. By the way, I love your pictures of Nano, Rosco and Trucker! Especially the birthday cake. So cute! :)

Chrystel, I have been using rye flour, so I guess I'll try switching to wheat? My grocery has all different types of flour, so luckily I don't have to drive out to Walmart :)
