It almost would have been better NOT to see the pictures...that poor baby. I've seen trim boxers before (and actually Beasley is nothin' but muscle and everyone thinks he's starved to death 'cause 2 ribs are visible) but that little sweetie looks malnourished. The head is so disproportionate to the body...just makes me soooooo angry.   Keep us posted.

i am almost in tears after seeing those pics. my Karma was a rescue who was almost dead when they found him (click here for his story). he was skinny when we got him, but he sure didn't look that skinny. i hope that woman is arrested. she's lucky it wasn't me standing there, she's be minus a dog and some teeth. just kidding, but it still makes me super mad!

What a beautiful boy he is. You should send them the pictures that you took, just in case she gets suspicious of all the people asking about Bailey last time, and doesnt bring him along this time.

I'd also make sure to try and get her address while you still can! You never know if you might not see her again! If anything, they could probably track her just by her name, if she owns a horse!

I am looking forward to the weekend so we can get an update.

Hey,
I'm not saying that you shouldn't look into this situation, as others have suggested, but I just wanted to say that that dog isn't too much skinnier than my baby. I can see probably 5 or 6 of Saschas ribs, and some of her spine and her hip bones stick out too. And she's definitely not neglected. She gets 4 cups of solid gold a day plus pumpkin and treats. Now, granted she's on'y 9 months old, but her mom was three and a half last time I saw her and looked pretty much the same. Cleo lives on a horse farm, so she spends all day every day chasing horses around fields, so she stays skinny regardless of what she's fed.
I'm not saying that dog looks right, and it's not good that his owner thinks he does(judging by her comment about how boxers don't fill out till the age of 4 or 5) but it's also not a certain fact that he's abused. I feel like I'm going to get yelled at for posting this, but I just felt like I should point out another viewpoint, especially since every time I take Sascha anywhere I get criticized by strangers for how skinny she is.

I know the same feeling! My mom tells me Spud's too skinny. He's a wiggly bag of bones. And he IS skinny. He eats nearly what Harley gets, and Harley is more than twice his size! BUT, while I can see Spuds hip bones, they certainly do not stick out to that extent. And skinny as Spud is, I can't see his backbone like that. Its not just the thin-ness, its the scarring and cuts across this dog's face, etc.

I dont want to blame the lady, who knows what is really going on. But its worth checking into and if she's a good owner, she will not mind and she'll understand if somebody else is concerned. If I paraded my dog around looking like that, I think I would be EXPECTING some questions and wouldnt be surprised if somebody called animal welfare

Please dont think that you are going to get yelled at :)

Not to start a debate but is it possible that this dog has a medical problem that might affect his ability to put on weight?
I didn't see the pic's either but your right it sure could be a medical prob, when Sadie started on prednisone for her IBD she went from 47 pds to 80 in two months, but if she is doing wrong something should be done.

I'm not going to yell at you....just adamently disagree. I looked in your gallery. Your dog is a little underweight, nothing serious. The dog in the pictures is emmaciated. When the hipbones are that visable, it's a serious problem. There is no way that running around after horses caused that. A dog that skinny would lack the energy to keep up with them. I volunteer with animal rescue and fostered a coonhound that came to me in a similar condition...although she was not even that bad. And she had been locked in a shed for a week without food.

Normally with older people, it's not intentional. In rescue, you see underweight AND overweight dogs. If I was the one who came across this dog, and could pull the money together, I would try to buy the dog and get it into rescue. Chances are, if she didn't have the money to feed it, she would sell it. I hope the authorities can get to this dog in time.

Trying to repost the photos.

This dog is def. not a rescue. I spoke with someone today who informed me this dog has been with this woman for quite some time and she's seen him at other shows since the beginning of last year, looking just as thin. Sadly for the dog, there is nothing the horse show vet/stewards can do about her parading him around in that shape but I am in contact with the local animal control and they have been extremely helpful and told me to call them when I see her at the grounds this week and they will send someone out right away!
That is great to hear! I'm eager to learn what happens. Please let me know if there is in anyway I can assist. I'm not far from Stafford.
Laura and Roxy....
