Around 2am Sunday morning we were woke up by the sound of Bayleigh coughing and gagging. About 30 seconds later, we hear a thud and I jump up, turn on the light and Bayleigh is on the floor on her side unconscious. She lost bladder control. She came to after what seemed like a lifetime but in reality was only about 30 seconds. I thought she had died. She was still gagging when she came to, but never threw anything up. She went outside, had a bm and peed. Came back in and slept the rest of the night like nothing had happened. She was fine yesterday.

The only thing we could think of was that she was choking on a piece of bone. It was nice outside Saturday and we spent the day out doing yardwork. I gave Bayleigh a rmb to chew on. She was always beside me and I didn't notice a big piece missing. She didn't have the opportunity to get into anything else.

Could she have had something stuck in her throat and choked?

I was ready to go to the emergency vet but we decided to wait. If she has another one, we will definately be going. She is due for her yearly vaccinations by the end of the month. I will be talking to her vet then, unless she has another. Fingers crossed that it was a one time thing.

That must have been so scarey! I'm glad she's ok now, fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

When DH said it was one of the dogs and I turned on the light before putting on my glasses, I saw a dog on the floor. I thought it was Wyatt, who is almost 13, lost most of his hearing and some of his sight. But to see Bayleigh there...that was really hard. I know that Wyatt's turn is coming and just thought it was him!

OMG...I will be sending good vibes. Hopefully it was a one time thing. I feed our guys RAW and I have had them throw up bone, but never choked to the point of passing out.

I hope she is doing well......

How scary!!! You are wise to discuss this with your vet at her check up. My boy used to have seizures but he never gagged like that so I think you may be right about the bone. At any rate hope all is well now and boxer wiggles to yours from mine :)

I'm so sorry, that must have been very scary.

This is only my experience (for what it's worth, I can't tell you if it's typical or not). I had a boxer girl with cardiomyopathy and she would just drop and be out like a light for several seconds and then come to, panting a lot. She would not lose her bladder during a syncope episode (and she had a weak bladder). My 10 year old boy has seizures that started out as collapsing, laying silently while losing bladder control. He would be disoriented after a seizure. At that point we weren't sure if it was seizures or heart problems. Eventually they turned into grand mal seizures where he starts by making these choking/wretching sort of movements, collapses, and then flails all about with his legs going every which way. When he comes out of it he usually throws up and is disoriented for quite a while.

I hope whatever it is, that it is easy to figure out and treat. Hugs to you.
