I had such a scary thing happen tonight.
I was loading the dish washer when along comes Hummer
and he starts licking the dirty dinner dishes (salmon yum)
I tell him to stop and to go away. Well he actually listened
as he turns his head to walk away his collar gets caught on the dish washers large bottom rack. He's terrified and goes hysterical I mean like a bucking bronco, he pulled the nearly loaded rack off and out of the washer. Its hooked to his neck the dishes are banging and breaking. The noise was unreal the kids are screaming scared to death. Poor Hummer was so scared he had a bowel movement. I don't know how but somehow he managed to get free and bolted right out the dog door.
You know I just had him micro chipped this week so as he would not have to wear his collar when we're in the house and at home. Well I didn't remember to take his collar off. Never again is his collar going to be on when we are at home.
I have had boxers for the past 14-15 years and never have I had a bad experience with a collar like this one. So unreal I can see how they can kill themselves with a collar on. I definitely view this as a major warning and reminder to myself NO MORE COLLARS IN THE HOUSE for my boxers.

Poor guy! Glad he's okay though! :)

We don't wear collars in the house either, the collar comes off with the leash as soon as we walk in the door - I am a worry wart when it comes to preventable accidents!

Anyway, glad to hear Hummer is good! Give him lots of hugs and kisses! :)

Poor Hummer!! I can relate a little to this but mine wasnt as terrifying. Tango used to get his collar hung in the couch cushions. He would sit there quietly in whatever postion it hung him up in and whimper quietly. If I was in the other room and didnt hear him right off he just laid there till he couldnt stand it any more then he would give a little bark. I would wonder about him and go look. There he would be wagging as hard as he could. I think he was afraid to move the cushion off the couch because he knows he isnt to play with certain things. He is such a gentlemen about being careful with anything that isnt a doggie toy. I dont know how he knows its not "his" but he does. So yeah.. no collars while in the house here either. Poor hummer..(((((sends hugs for him)))

I just started taking the collars off mine. Nothing has ever happened to them but you know I wouldn't want to were something around my neck 24/7 so why would they. I had my backyard fenced in and locks put on the inside so no one can open the gates unless I want them to and they are always locked when the dogs are out there with me so I figured why did they need them. And all of mine are microchipped also.

Poor Hummer..I hope there are no lasting ill effects for him or "you". Boxers bounce back (literally) very quickly. I bet he'll be back there licking those dishes in no time :)

Hummer is doing fine (luckily):o. Thanks for all the well wishes. He definitely remembers the dish washer incident from last night. When I opened the dish washer this morning to put things in, he heard the clink clank of the dishes and went straight to the dog door with that nervous look in his eyes. I guess in order to make a quick escape if necessary.

You know I would always get annoyed with Hummer when he came over scavenging for scraps trying to lick the dirty dishes & silverware and tell him to go away and leave things alone. Well hopefully he was spooked enough to stop licking the dishes..So gross I know. I don't completely freak out over it but I know its gross all the same. :)

I dont know about how gross that is. My mother is the cleanest woman i have ever known. House spotless all that. BUT when your eating dinner at her house and you get finished, she takes the plates and sets them down on the floor for her two dogs to lick. Then she tells you that the dishwasher gets the plates hot enough to kill any germs. Kinda makes you go..uugghh till you think about it. I guess it does get hot enough..but still..
