Re: Chemo
Tried to PM you with info regarding the name of another owner and her e-mail address who is subsequently going thorugh the same thing you are, but was unable to. Here is a portion of an update she sent with regards to her dog's chemo:
"Thank you ever so much for remembering my sweet boy... So far, he's doing great!!! Tell me how your new pup is doing!! Do you have pictures?? I'd love to see that face!!
Cole has an appt. tomorrow morning with his oncologist... a check-up and I'm sure another round of chemo. He had his CBC done last week to see if the chemo. is destroying good cells...
Guess what..... his vet called to say his red and white cells were "beautiful"...!! Now, I must say that I'm afraid to get excited, but I know the Oncologist will be ever soooooo delighted.
Cole is happy, even plays once in a while - just a little, but what a great improvement. His vet, who is a great guy, thought Cole wouldn't make it because he wasted away to nothing in a very short period and collapsed, couldn't walk, wouldn't eat... whew.... what an awful time. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't work from a home office and be able to watch his every breath to see if it differed from the previous one. His bed was right at my feet so I could observe him.
Bottom line - is that he is feeling pretty good...eats well has regained his normal body weight, and...I've been able to work him up to walking almost a mile in the morning...slowly...but walking. His back legs and hips are weak so I'm trying to build them up. It's too hot to walk later in the day so I concentrate on the morning coolness for his excercise".
Hope this will give the encouragement you need right now. Check out the URL for the canine cancer support group I posted earlier - I'm sure they can also provide you with a wealth of info and support right now. Good luck - Cathy
