I am no expert on the situation, but I feel that it starts with taking then out a lot and working with them when they are puppies. At that time they can't get away from you really, and you are pretty much the center of their world. I always played hide and seek with Boomer and we still do today. I don't know if it's the fact that he doesn't trust me not to get out of his site suddenly, but he always seems to want to keep an eye on me and I belive that plays a part in how well he is behaved. Some dog the other night kind of lunged at him while he was doing him buisness and he pretty much just ignored it and came to me when I called him.(The dog was about 2/3 his size so I don't think he felt threatened anyway) He is always a good boy and comes in when I call him, unless the fuzzball stops to sniff something and corrupts hiim into doing the same!
