Rowdy is usually glued to my side, even at boxer bashes. I wouldn't trust him near a busy street, but we play in the front yard quite a bit. He plays with the neighbors miniature dacshund. It looks like he's chasing a hotdog, but they both are having fun.

Princess is quirky...when we play off lead at the park at the end of the street she comes when called...but if she if free in the front yard, she's off like a shot, checking out the neighbours yards, kissing and saying hello...and she even jumped in a neighbours car. Yea, that made me happy.

At the dog park she responds to my whistle - she doesn't come right to me - but she'll come back in the near vicinity...I think she figures I'll make her leave when she comes back, even though i'm just trying to give her loves!

I've had Mackenzie to the park a couple of times this week now that he's all grown up, had shots and is healthy. He can be waaaaaay on the other side playing and I'll call him and he'll come bounding over. You bet, I'm going to do all I can to maintain that recall!

Mine like to explore to well to stay by my side, but I have to admit I haven't put that much time in with keeping up their training lately .

We are having an issue right now with cattle.
You see, we live in the country surrounded by fields and pasture.
The pasture across from us now has cattle in it as it does every Spring through Fall.
Gidget was to young to remember last Fall so now we are totally re-working our recall. She was doing really well, not totall but well enough I trusted her within eyesight to run free in the field next to us. Not now, if she so much as hears a cow pull a blade of grass she's off like a rocket. I'm about at my wits end, , she is sooo prey driven.

Ozzy would stay, There is a picture of him in my gallery, he is sitting in front of the house and I have told him to stay. and someone is walking by with a dog and he is just watching but nevermoved. Takes patience and training. Ozzy is very good on recall.

Ours stay close and come when called.

I just got back from taking them all out. I normally take them over to the high school and let them run on the tennis courts. It's fenced in and a great place for them to have fun. It's getting warmer out so the tennis courts were filled w/ people actually playing tennis.

So we went to the kindergarten school. They're play ground is fenced in but there were still teachers there so I was afraid to allow the dogs to go in. I locked the kids in the play ground and allowed the dogs to run free in the grassy area behind the play ground. It was at least 5 acres of grass connected to a large parking lot w/ a newly plowed field beside it and woods behind it. Nothing was fenced in!! They had a blast and we got in some recall practice. It's just great to see a dog break away from playing w/ others and obey the recall command.

You wouldn't believe how much more you can enjoy your dog if well trained off leash. The things you can do w/ them are endless when they don't have to be attached to a leash at all times.

Corky come when called most of the time. That's the problem. Most of the time isn't good enough. If there is another dog around she just wants to play and then doesn't listen to me very well. We keep working on it though. I always have her leash, especially if there is traffic around and then it's always on her.

I think if you give it a little time things will get better too. When Riley was two, he was still having lots of behavioral issues. He's turning four in a couple of weeks and he's like a totally different dog- I don't know where all the goodness came from! Boxers have a looong puppyhood!
Incidently, I can identify with the story about jumping in the neighbor's car. Riley jumped into the mail man's truck! The poor guy won't park on our block anymore!

Harley would run away.....although when he plays with his mom when we all go camping, we let them run off the leash and he stays with her....but Harley has gotten out of the house a few times and just sprints away......it's beautiful to watch him --- but he always comes running when we get the lead or open the truck door....

Lex and Ram would come to me if they were off the lead. I dont want to chance it in huge traffic areas, but I know they would. Sayde however would run never to be seen again. She was like that. If the front door opened and she ran out, it was hours before anyone could catch her. Nevermind the year of obedience and agility training she was in. When she was in competition she was a different dog. Staying, comming and stopping on command. At home, forget it. You couldnt touch her till she had toured the neighborhood and then came home. Scared me all the time when she got out and I'd run after her crying. But she thought it was a game. Never could break her of that. Kinda strange.
