I have not had experience with that medical condition, so I have no advice, but I do wish you and your boxer well. I hope you do find some good support and information on Boxerworld (I am sure you will).

Sorry to hear the news about Lily. I've had some experience in heart disease iin both dogs and cats. Holden had the typical BCM and was diagnosed at the age of 4 years. He appeared and acted perfectly healthy. The vet picked up the irregular heart beats at a routine checkup. Holden had the Holter Moniter and was put on Solatol. That was in January 2002. The following August he underwent ACL surgery and recovered quickly. He just collapsed while walking and was gone. That happened on April 30th of last year. I can think of no difference in his behavior or eating or exercise patterns leading up to his death. It was just a normal day and walk and he was gone. He lived over two years from the time of diagnosis.

My long haired cat Lewis suffered from an enlarged heart. He was in congestive heart failure when the vets and cardiologist finally saw what was wrong. L ewis, unlike Holden, had other health problems at the time of diagnosis, mainly irritable bowel disease. He was given 6 months to live, but Lewis fooled them all and lived nearly 6 years longer. He passed one year ago yesterday of renal failure. He took a diuretic and Vasotec all those years. The experience I had with Lewis made me optimistic about Holden's prognosis. But the outcome was not as good. Heart disease of any kind whether dog or cat or person is just a time bomb. No one knows but the odds are in your and Lily's favor with the meds and the research.

I wish the best for the both of you. Keep a routine, one as stress free as possible, stick to the prescribed meds and make each day a good one.

I lost my girl Zoe to cardiomyopathy many years ago...when hers was diagnosed it was beyond treatment. She was also a rescue girl and my only white boxer. This disease is very treatable with the proper medications and good diet and mild exercise. Give Lily a big kiss from me and I will keep her in my prayers.

What did the vet say in terms of medication and time? I hope that with meds you both will be able to have a happy long life.

Miracles do happen and I believe Lewis was one of them. Given about six months to live by the cardiologist at Purdue, he was able to make it nearly six years with a very good quality of life for most of that time.

Holden had a great life after the diagnosis, so his sudden death came as a complete shock. His checkups had been so encouraging.

At least you know of Lily's heart problems and can take steps to try and manage it. I have lost a beautiful 6 year old longhair tortie cat to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and the only symptom was sudden death. Jerri's autopsy revealed the enlarged heart. If I had only known, perhaps the drugs that worked so well for Lewis would have given Jerri more time with us.

Trust your vet and the meds. Keep your chin up and as stress free an enviroment and routine for Lily as possible. And enjoy each day with her. I vowed to make every day a happy one for Lewis and it helped. Same for Holden.

I wish you well and many happy years with Lily.
