Well it does sound like he got a good thorough exam and I am thrilled for the good news of the day...so many things ruled out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good blood results as well....Hang in there girl!

Thanks for the Riley update, and for taking the time to share your experience and the information. I'm so glad Riley's ultrasound was clean and the vet says he looks healthy. Hopefully all the test results will be good. Continuing to send healing and positive vibes to your sweet boy, and keep you both in my prayers.

Good news on Riley's appointment with the IMS. Thanks for the update. I didn't realize Riley was such a big boy. My grandpup Brutus is very tall, and weighs 95 pounds. I would love to see these boys do a burn together. One would not want to stand in their way.

Thanks guys. I was under the impression when I talked to the receptionish to set up the appointment for yesterday that it was supposed to be just a consultation. I had no idea they'd be drawing blood and have the ultrasound down at the spur of the moment. I wasn't expecting such a big bill, but I'm kind of glad that the biggest part (ultrasound) it's out of the way and everything looked good. I was very pleased with the Dr's and look forward to working with them to try to solve whatever Riley's problem is. This may sound bad, but I'm kind of hoping that they do find something wrong within his blood results. At least we'll then know what the problem is so we can work to treat it. The not knowing what's going on inside is just horrible.
Pam, Riley is a very big boy. He was a normal sized puppy, but like your grandpup Brutus, he ended up being very tall. He has a very large frame. He's not very agile or graceful like his little brother Mason who's almost constantly burning! Riley doesn't do the burn all that much, but when he does it is pretty scary when he's coming at you! He's more of a "spinner". When he's ready to play he'll run a little bit, but then he'll start spinning in circles. Sometimes he does it with such force that his hind end goes flying and pulls him a little bit. It's hard to explain, but it's very cute. I'll have to try video taping him doing this one of these days.

I'm so curious to hear how Riley is doing... my little man Bernie is having the same problem starting a week ago. Well, let me back up. When he was a baby (around 5-6 months) he'd have an accident every now and then while asleep. It happened rarely and I just figured it was because he's still a baby and was probably exhausted from playing in the heat (it was during summer) and just didn't realize. It only happened three or four times that I could remember.
Now while I was away for a funeral last tuesday, my mom was watching Bernie and said she woke up to him licking himself like crazy in the middle of the night. She went over to him since thats not normal behavior for him and noticed him and his bed was all wet! It's almost like he was embarrassed that he peed, and was trying to clean it up before anyone noticed! Two nights later, the same thing happened. I finally came home and watched his drinking and peeing during the day, which seemed normal. He's had three more accidents since I got back, the last being last night while he was laying asleep next to me on the couch!
Today he went to his vet and had the whole round of tests done. The invoice says they did xrays, cbc, serum chemistry, thyroid profile T4 and a urinalysis. I'm supposed to hear back from the vet tomorrow when I drop off the urine sample. Like you, more than the hassle of cleaning up and doing laundry every night, I feel badly for Bernie and just hope to get this little issue fixed and if not fixed, want to make sure it is nothing incredibly serious.

Sorry for the delay in posting an update. So far, Riley is still undiagnosed as being anything other than incontinent. His last set of blood tests came back perfect as well as the urinalysis and urine cultures. So, since his blood tests, urinalysis / urine cultures, x-ray, and ultrasound came back with nothing wrong the specialists feels that he's just incontinent and that he was on to low of a dose of Proin. They had me take him off of the Cephalexin and up the Proin dosage to 300mg per day (100mg 3x - morning, afternoon, and night) to see if that does anything. He's been on this dosage for the past couple of weeks now with NO accidents. This has been an ongoing pattern though. Whenever his meds were upped he did great for several weeks and then the accidents started up again. We'll have to see what happens this time around.
So, for now we're just waiting and watching. As long as nothing changes for the worst or his accidents start up again we're going to leave things alone. I feel as comfortable as I can be with this. My main worries were that there was something physically wrong inside or that he had a disease that needed to be treated, but since all of the tests came back clean most of my worries were set at ease.
jengelz - No need to apologize for posting a long message. I know exactly how you feel in wanting to rule as much as possible out. I hope your boy gets better. For now, I would strongly recommend creating a chart to keep tabs on his accidents as it will help the doctors to understand what's really going on. I wish I would've thought of it earlier with Riley. How old is Bernie now?

Bernie will be two in March. Fingers crossed, we've been doing okay for the past few days. No accidents! All the tests came back negative, which is great. The vet would like to put him on some sort of bladder medication... it is supposed to strengthen the bladder. Not sure what its called, as I haven't picked it up yet. Maybe it was what Riley is on- Proin- since he would be taking it two times a day. I think I might wait and see if his accidents were a fluke and were just happening for some other unknown reason because I'd hate to have him on meds if it isn't completely necessary!
I will start making a chart if he starts up again. Thanks for the advice. How is Riley doing? Any better on the new meds?
