RE: Show to Pet, Breeders and other misc :)

Hi Everyone

Well i'm STILL trying to get my furbaby. I've not progressed past a waiting list for months now :( I'm starting to feel like there is something wrong with me. One breeder told me she would not sell me one of her dogs for i live near the city! <ouch> I understood tho, and respected her for caring 110% for her dogs, which unfortunately i can't say for all.

I'm on another waiting list at the moment. A lot of people are telling me that the Queensland breeders are not really breeding because of the laws to do with tail docking.

One breeder has an older dog (under 1 year) who has been in the show ring and is selling as a pet. This sounds like a nice option for me, but needed to ask,
1. How a show dog goes being a pet dog.
2. Is there anything i should know, or be wary of.

My parents boy started off as a show dog but wasn't doing well - about 9 months, his breeders decided he would be better off as a pet dog. So my parents got him at about 9 months and he's now 12 years old. It worked out better than they ever imagined. He very quickly adapted to a life of leisure in his new home, and my parents got to avoid all of the difficulties tht go along with a baby puppy.

Ank, this could be a wonderful opportunity. Go meet him and see if magic happens. He's still very much a baby and will adjust easily. The reasons he washed out from showing are probably meaningless in a pet - cosmetic, or just a lack of pizzazz, nothing that would detract from being a great companion to your family.

If he's been raised in a kennel you might have to housebreak him and teach him more basic manners, but if he's been raised in a home I wouldn't expect many problems.
